this has always been a recurring issue almost every year!
I just replaced the rear drums to Brembos (early this year) with OEM shoes (a year ago) Lately, this whistling sound when stopping came back again. I used pressurized water yesterday to remove the dirt from the brakes but to no avail. I suspect my rear shoes are thin & needs to be replaced, since this has been an annoying & recurring issue for 8 years now. I have had the dealer & different shops inspect this issue but there seems to be no fix...do I need to replace the shoes yearly? any suggestions or solutions?!!!

its not normal to change shoe and drum yearly....first check if everything seem in his place no bind adjusment or fixation.check inside the drum for blue color that incate overheating if the case watch for a trouble in hydrolic system or the emergency brake cable jammed maybe if not, jobber part can make noise and lot of dust....rear drum cleanup should be done yearly (removing all dust lubricating moving part with copper antiseize) be sure to you don't have lot of rust on the drum and backplate it can be the cause to, if yes clean everything.for the adjustment tire should rotate for about 1 or 2 rotion by hand force.

And it's not just Honda, I just did the same thing (clean out brake dust) on my GF's Corolla. All sorts of horrible noises were emanating from the drums and once again, I thought they were grinding. I believe that after a while, the brake shoes become glazed and in conjunction with the brake dust floating around in the hub, produce the sounds you hear.
