Why are 8th gen V6 6-speeds so much faster then 7th gen V6 6-speed?

They can run 13.7-14.0 @ 100-102 right out of the box.... While 7th gen is 14.5 @ 98 with professional driver(Car and Driver) at best. They have 32 more horsepower(268 vs 244) then a 7.5 gen V6 6-speed.... But weigh roughly ~300 lbs more. Would the weight not offset this ? They don't have an LSD, so I would think it's torque would make it harder to get off the line then 7th gen ? I thought about getting 8th gen coupe v6 6-speed in future but it gets 4 mpg worse on the highway and 2 less in the city.....

Random Note: But other aspects of the 8th gen car are nicer and less nice at the same time. Interior design is better then 7th gen, but quality is down. I test drove 9th gen, it has far superior design and quality of materials then any previous gen off Accord, very nice car. The 7th gen was major step up from 6th(I used to own a 98 Acura 3.0CL), 8th gen was more of a step sideways over the 7th IMO, and with the 9th it's a nice step up from the 8th.

I drove one too and I was impressed. I believe it's all in the torque. The 3.5 is also lighter than the 3.0 believe it or not. I would still take the 7th gen over the 8th gen. Although it had better low end power, I still felt like I was driving a boat. The 7th gen is just right and it's more "tossable". You can also drop in a 3.2 from the TL and stroke it, making it a 3.6L. There still doesn't seem to be much for the 8th Gen.

I personally thought the 7th Gen interior was better and well done. It was simple and clean. That's just me, I could be biased. The 7th Gen coupe is hot when it has wheels, drop, HFP lip kit and inspire headlamps. That's what I am aiming for.

The only thing I don't like about the interior of mine is the hard plastic to rest your left elbow on the door panel, they needed to put padding there.

Yeah my dad has 2007 Infiniti G35 Sport 5AT and runs same times in the 1/4 as 8th gen Av6-6.... The VQ35HR has so so much more torque then any J series I have ever driven, it's torque is almost violent to passengers... I wonder if 8th gen is like this ? It's faster from 0-50, but past that my car is dead even with his. What's funny is his car is rated 24 mpg highway and requires premium, that's 10 mpg less then a new 9th gen accord v6 ! It's at 3k rpm at 65 mph.

I think the suspension is a bit soft for what it is, but I'm not complaining because there are no curvy roads here, all the roads are on a grid. But it did feel a little floaty/scary when braking from ~90-100 mph at the drag strip(I went 15.138 @ 94; stock, it was first time ever at the dragstrip, I had learned stick shift and bought the car the previous week, and it was 103 degrees out with 80 percent humidity, the waterbox is unavoidable at this particular strip, and I had worn out/legally bald Kumho ASX all season 215/45 series tires).

Okay well now you're just comparing apples to oranges. The VQ vs J has a DOHC with a dual intake in a RWD setup for luxury sports cars..the J is SOHC with a single throttlebody and FWD layout. The 7th Gen with a built J can easily become a beast.

A J33 auto sedan got a 13.7 with ~103 trap speed. So just imagine if your 6MT had a built J36 considering the higher displacement J's are lighter than the J30.

J33 ? J36 ? I am getting 3 inch exhaust tomorrow morning(3 inch to 2.5 duals), I am just having the last cat taken out since it's original and in the meantime till I get J-pipe.... How much hp overall you think I will gain ?

I am having 2 universal DC Sports mufflers w/tip installed as well..... Forewarning: I think it may sound a bit ricey due to the cat being gone, so in a few weeks I'll have a resonator put in. I'll post up a vid when it's done tomorrow morning!

Good deal getting the 3" exhaust. The J-pipe will get you 15-24whp depending on which you get. The PCD's will yield even more gains. As for resonator, try 18"-30".

Here's a thread discussing the J3X combos. They're basically built J motors with MDX crank rods, RL pistons, etc..

Oh that makes more sense now, haha.... Which J pipe gives you the most hp gains and fits 3 inch exhaust ?

XLR8 or RV6 V3 J pipe ? Which gives more hp gains ? The V3 looks higher quality...

There is no Jpipe that will directly fit 3" exhaust. As far as gains, it's a toss up between the XLR8 V2 and RV6 V3. I have the XLR8 V2 and I like it. The welds and quality of work is top notch. Both J-Pipes also delete the 3rd cat As well. Anything before those two will make power but less. To fit the 3" exhaust you gotta modify the collector to a 3".

The 8G is faster than the 7G because of its power to weight advantage and better gearing. It has a higher FD ratio (3.55 vs the 7G 3.29) so the gears are a bit shorter, which allows the car to stay more in the meat of its powerband. That coupled with a ~15whp and 30lb-ft advantage and only ~150lbs heavier, make it a faster car.

Also, not sure who did the math (lol) but 268-244 = 24hp

Here is the power to weight for each car, obviously bone stock.

7.5G:
244hp / 3,265 lbs
P/W: 13.38

8G:
268hp / 3,446 lbs
P/W: 12.85

I will say I do like the 8G a little better in terms of exterior design. The 7.5G tails are too big, but they are LED which I love But I like my interior wayyyyy better than the 8G.

I apologize about my iphone falling over, it was propped up to a curb. I like how it sounds.... It is very quiet. Reminiscent of Magnaflow muffler.... I thought it would sound tinny, hollow, loud, and ricey with no mid pipe resonators but wow was I wrong or what. 3rd cat is taken out too, 3 inch piping split off to 2.5 and 2 universal DC Sports muffler/tips.

-I did this at an abandoned church parking lot, ghost knocked it over ?
