Interesting thought about the letter designating generation.

So..

A = 1st gen?
B = 2nd gen?
C = 3rd gen?

Unfortunately, a Google search for 9012LL A1 turns up nothing... unless 1st gen was just 9012LL?
Thanks for the quotes. I read the first one but miss the one about it meaning production. I have been debating on getting it from Candlepower, eBay, or Amazon. But since it is just means production dates then I might as well get it though amazon for 20 a piece for the 9012 and 19 a piece for the 9011. Thanks for clearing this up. I might look into why CandlePower says "3rdGen". You might be right that 9012LL is 1st gen without the A1.

Some manufacturers do that. Take these
GE Nighthawk Sport bulbs GE Nighthawk Sport bulbs
with a part number of 9006NHS/BP2

That part # translates as

9006 = 9006 bulb
NHS = Night Hawk Sport
BP2 = Blister pack of 2 bulbs

That's why I think B and C aren't referring to generation but rather packaging.

Hi,
I need to buy new headlight bulbs to replace the Nighthawks on my 96 accord sedan. I have been reading the reviews on the Philips HIR2's and most people seem to like them. I also read about Toshiba's brand needing the plastic trimmed.

I checked Amazon, and they have: Philips HIR2 9012 Standard Halogen Headlight Bulb, Pack of 1 $22.16. But when I fill in the "will it fit my car" section, it says "no". In reading all your posts, it seems that they do fit the sedans, but maybe because it's older. Does this bulb need any modifications?

Can anyone help? Any other suggestions for a whiter replacement bulb?

Thanks.

Amazon says it doesn't fit because it's a 9012 bulb and your car uses a 9006 bulb. But the 9012 bulb can be made to fit. You just need to trim the base. These would be the best option for a white bulb unless you do a retrofit.

Ok, Thanks. Are these bulbs as bright as people are saying? Some people really like them and some don't.

I've noticed that my Nighthawks aren't that bright as when they were new, so I'm looking to replace them soon.

I know to stay away from the Silverstars, but is there any other brand you can suggest? Or should I just get these. Thanks for your help and expertise.

What about the Nighthawk Sports, or Philips NightGuide bulbs?

There are plenty of review here. Just use the search function.
