I think this crap happens all the time in many "Stealerships".

Honda dealer I bought my last 2 from tried to get me for $2800.00 to replace the DVD player, which was $290.00. Only after I raised hell with Honda coorporate did the problem get resolved.

This s ucks for this guy and the 2 ass clowns who were involved should be fired.

I remember years ago my mom's Saturn was hesitating while accelerating. Dad brought it to the dealer. They did a full tune up eventhough the car had 20k miles on it or so. The service cost $350 and the service guy said if that didn't work to pour some fuel system cleaner into it. Well the tune up didn't work so dad bought some fuel system cleaner for .99 which solved the issue.

Stuff like this is where the internet and social media really comes in handy. This kind of thing would go completely unnoticed a few years ago and the dealership wouldn't care at all. These days something like this goes out pretty quick and if it turns viral, could really stir up a crapstorm in a matter of days.

This **** happened often with my dad's vette; an insider told me the mechanics took it out for a joy-ride EVERY time it was in the shop.

I've been paranoid about this sort of thing since I bought my first car. When I was picking up my Accord, I watched as the dealer took it to fill up the tank...he wasn't so good with the manual transmission, dropped the clutch, and spun the tires. I cringed

I'm thinking about buying one of those pens with a microphone built it. Leave it in the car every time you leave it at the dealer.

Or call the TV show Cheaters ... lol ... Starting to think one of those pens could yield a phenomenal return on investment for anyone with a cool car ...

It probably could be bypassed by some skanky dealers, but most late-model cars either have black box data recorders or enough resident data in the engine control units that an owner with the right knowledge could download those data. I'd suggest a government regulation requiring that, but those guys would only make it worse and probably use it for other, more sinister, purposes at some future date.

ANY android or iOS programmers out there? All the accelereometers and such in smartphones are probably tailor-made for a datalogging apps for cars.

If you ask me, a concealed dash cam is the best ... could help with insurance claims also ....
