Acura ZDX: Disliked and Discontinued

Quote:
While Honda plays doctor with its unpopular Crosstour, Acura is taking on a different role for its 2013 ZDX crossover: Mortician.

And it’s about time. Despite dumping considerable time and effort into the oddly-aimed vehicle since its 2009 introduction, there haven’t been many to bite the hook. In 2013, it will get a host of styling and technology updates for the upcoming model year. Not even Acura thinks that will be enough to justify a sustained life cycle.

“People shopping for a luxury crossover vehicle will find the Acura ZDX an even more attractive product,” said Jeff Conrad, vice president and general manager of the Acura Division. “Moving forward, we will continue to advance the Acura lineup with a focus on new core models, like the recently redesigned RDX and the upcoming all-new RLX flagship sedan, that provide the ideal balance of performance and fuel efficiency that is right for each product and a driving experience that is dynamic and emotional.”

It’s a nice way of saying the ZDX was a good try, but one better swept under the rug than remembered. If you happen to number among the few who feel inclined to buy, here’s what you’ll get.

Redesigned front and rear bumpers, a new grille, and power-folding auto-dimming side mirrors. It will be sold as a single “value-added” package that includes a 435-watt sound system, and eight-inch display with navigation, vented and heated front seats and more.

The car also comes with forward collision warning and lane departure warning – both new for the car, which will cost $51,815 including delivery.

And if you’re wondering how unloved this car actually was – only 48 units sold last month.

Honda should stick to what they do best, slightly altering the appearance of their current generations when creating next generations instead of dumping money into "ugly ducklings" that only appeal to a small % of the market. Yes, Haters gonna hate.

Ain't a half-bad driving machine. Get Ron Jon to fab' up a front-grille, throw on some nice wheels & de-badge the emblems/etc from the rear... it becomes a slick ride!

To me the shape of the body just looks weird and awkward. Its not like your 'traditional' cross overs like the Venza or the Journey (both newer models - just like the Crosstour). I think Honda tried to be like Toyota and made the crosstour but it didn't turn out nearly as nice as the Venza. To me the Crosstour just looks like an oversized Accord hatchback.
