98EX rearview mirror replacement questions

I own a 98 white EX. Both rearview mirrors are damaged and need replacingt. I couldn't find any used at local salvage yards but I found new replacements on eBay for under $30, which seems awfully low to me. Also, it was suggested to me to get replacements for a 99EX, which are fold-away.

I have a few questions:

1) does anyone have any experience with purchasing these off eBay (the sellers all have very high ratings)?

2) These will need to be painted. My auto painting experience is touching up dings with a touch-up pen. Any advice on how to paint these would be great.

3) In a 98 EX you need to remove the door panel to get to the connection. With a 99 EX you get to that connection by removing the same triangular panel on the door that you remove to get to the rearview mirror unit screws. Will the wires on a 99EX replacement mirror be long enough to reach the connection in the door panel of a 98EX?

thanks in advance!

#1 - The 99EX mirrors are not "fold-away" mirrors. I have a 99EX and my mirrors definitely do not fold.

#2 - I wouldn't paint them if they come to you in black. Having 2 black side mirrors would look pretty normal unless the car is white. If you want to paint them there are many threads on here about sanding, priming, painting and clearing.

#3 - I still don't see how the 98 & 99 have different mirrors.

Okay, after rereading and seeing you had a white Accord, I would get them painted. I would bet you can make them look pretty good by painting them yourself.

Yes, the 99 ex's DO have foldaways. Mine on my 99 EX fold, will provide pictures if necessary. The 98's aren't different than 99's.

Thanks for all the input.

Without posting a link, unless that's allowable here, do you guys have any opinion on getting these off of eBay?

thanks,

John

You never know what you are getting from Ebay. Aftermarket often give fitting issues. Otherwise, everything should be alright. make sure you read the entire post, sometimes they don't include the glass, or put something that you don't notice, and then get screwed when the actual part comes in, and it's missing things, or not what you expected.
