K&N Intake Quesiton

Recently purchased a 2012 EXL v6 coupe. I am looking to get a new cold air intake and I see a K&N intake from College Hills Honda for about $260. I have two questions:

1) Has anybody ever had any bad experiences with the K&N Typhoon intake?

2) How do I go about getting this installed in my vehicle? I do not feel comfortable installing this myself just yet.

a) Get it from amazon.
b) Not sure on the Typhoon but my SRI was pretty easy to install (looks the same as CAI). Basic tool kit and ability to follow directions is all that's needed...I take that back...you might want some extra long ratchet extension bars to remove the stock airbox. Have some rags handy to catch the coolant that will dribble a bit from the throttle body->engine block lines.

Skeptical but if they sold it they would probably install it..guarantee Amazon is far cheaper. Do what I did for my intake runner and pulley...take it to an independent honda mechanic that gets good reviews. You have to ask straigth up if they'll install customer supplied parts....some won't because they're worried about the part being low quality, failing, and then you bitching them out. A mechanic could probably do it in < 15 minutes and would charge $70 for an hour of labor.

I can't emphasize enough how easy the install is. Remove airbox, remove stock intake. Unscrew MAF sensor. Disconnect fat hose, disconnect smaller hose...coolant will leak a bit. Install mounting hardware. Install new intake. Reconnect new fat hose and new little hose. Done. Socket set, pliers, and a screwdriver and that's it. If you're doing mods you should have tools anyways in case something needs adjusting down the road.

K&N also has a youtube video of the install process that you could follow along. It's something like "K&N Accord 2008" search term...here you go:

One more question guys!

Are these pretty solid intakes to get? I have asked around and K&N seems to be the name popping up the most. Is the performance increase between intakes relatively the same between different brands?

It's just a metal tube. Buying K&N is like buying a Rolex...most expensive because of the name.

It's a good intake. Becareful when tightening down the clamps on the metal tube though, mine started to collapse inwards. Had to bang the end back into shape. Never seen that weak of an intake tube.

I have a 08 V6 accord with the K&N Typhoon intake and it was the best investment I made in the car. Not only does the car sound mean as hell, its definitely far more responsive than the stock setup in regards to acceleration.

As mentioned, the instructions from KN are fool proof. I installed mine in an hour with no problems whatsoever. It’s a very simple install. No different than filling up your tank.

Has anyone had a problem with emissions testing smog test, when it comes to the KnN filter, or do you guys usually swap it out for the oem before testing?

Most smog check guys don't care, but it don't hurt to ask/check around first. Or know a friend of a friend that knows a smog check guy.

One more thing, I've been monitoring fuel trims while driving with the k&n intake and it looks pretty good.

talked to a guy and said that a tune is required to get the full performance of the CAI.. my question is will the tune void that warranty? i know there is some law out there that says a dealership has to prove that the part (CAI) is responsible if the car messes up, but will the tune up automatically void it?
