New Dash Kit for upper double din radios!

Hey guys I want to inform you all that Metra will be making a dash kit for our cars for the upper part of the dash. I talked with one of the guys at Metra and he couldn't give me the full details on it but I do have a picture of it.

Like Ike said, about damn time. I wonder if it'll have the "lag" that plagues the current single DIN kit?

So I'm trying to figure out how that thing is designed. Looks like they relocate the temp controls to be above the radio? Looks strange.

Found this googling

Quote:
Metra Electronics is pleased to announce the upcoming release of the 99-7803 for the 2003-2007 Honda Accord.

In 2003 Metra Electronics set out to do something never done before in the realm of aftermarket radio installation kits. The 2003 Honda Accord’s factory radio and climate controls were integrated in one part. The buzz in the industry was “They say it can’t be done.” Metra did it, providing the first installation kit with an aftermarket climate control built in. Over the past 9 years, more than a dozen of these kits were developed at Metra, getting better looking each time. With that experience, Metra has decided to re-build the 2003-2007 Accord kit with major improvements. The new 99-7803 comes to life from a combination of Metra’s real world experience and understanding their customers’ needs.

The biggest engineering achievement would have to be the ability to now install double-DIN radios. The new design with rubber backlit buttons and an LCD display allows this kit to retain all factory climate functions in both manual and auto climate equipped cars with no additional parts needed. Additionally there will be a replacement pocket for the lower dash. The factory pocket can remain, but doesn’t operate so Metra’s 88-00-7803 will be available sold separately as a better looking solution. Once again Metra adapts to the changes in mobile electronics trends, providing a modern solution for a popular vehicle. “It can be done”.

While I am happy to hear someone got on board to design something that we have needed for years, I am dissapointed in the rather cheap looking design ofthe a/c controls.
We are all looking to upgrade our cars with a premium sound and video with the double din in the right place but it's all thrown away with the poor aesthetics of the a/c controls.

They did keep the original layout which is admirable but the color and button shapes seem off to me.

Completely agree. I'm sure its something most of us could get over (even if its something we could just live with) so that we have the DD HU in the appropriate location especially for those that wish or are currently running aftermarket navigation.
