Hit a raccoon, bumper $?, pics and dashcam video

So I hit a raccoon. He tried but he was a bit too slow.

So.... any idea what this is going to cost? I'm just looking for ball park figures so I know if the body shop is way out of line. Haven't gotten any estimates yet.

V6, '06 Coupe

And a 10 second dashcam video. It's horrible in the dark and youtube doesn't help any but before uploading you can see the black and white striping on it's tail. It IS a 'coon and not somebodies dog or cat.
Cam is a Smarty BX1500 with the 170 lens.

A hot glue gun is...what...$5?

Seriously though, this. Sons Honda is one of the only Honda dealerships that will ship body pieces for like $20! All of the others will charge $100-200 due to the huge size of the box. I can personally vouch for them as that is where I ordered my rear HFP lip kit.

P/N is 04711-SDN-A81ZZ

Sorry about the unfortunate occurrence bud, I hope you have full coverage - make the insurance do their job, that is what you pay them for.

Awesome! Thanks for that.

I have full coverage but that vs. deductible vs. having a smaller local shop paint and install.... if it's less than twice my deductible, which I think is $500, I'll probably just buy the part and have a smaller shop paint and install it.

If the whole job is like $1200-$1500, which I'm betting on, insurance is getting this one.

You're welcome bud.

Just FYI, I just walked out of my body guy's (of 10 years) place paying 3 bills out the door just to get my front & rear HFP lips painted. Paint/supplies cost $150 alone (about $80 for 1 pint) and that price of $300 actually includes him hooking me up with a BOGO price on the lips (painted both for the price he'd charge just for one which would be $150).

The cost of body work has sky-rocketed over the years, so I can almost guarantee you to get a front bumper done, especially by a shop that isn't personal with you, is well going to exceed $500 (that's your deductible alone). Not including the cost of the bumper & shipping ($240).

I wish you the best of luck, though, man! Definitely keep us posted

I've hit a raccoon before, it didnt do any damage to my car, he must of gotten stuck under your bumper n forced the panel to pop in a non panel popping area.

Dreaming, the size of the boxes are not what matters when shipping usually, its the weight, 20 bucks is accurate, the pieces are lightweight, $100 bucks for shipping is total price gouging

Ya, this one was BIG. The video doesn't do it justice due to the 170 degree lens on the camera. I actually thought it was a coyote at first, it just stood too tall for a 'coon.

He zigged, probably should have zagged.

Why would you think that the size of a package has no bearing on shipping cost? Of course it does.

A) I like electronic gadgets.

B) You wouldn't believe the goofy crap I catch people doing on it.

C) For accidents.

D) For stuff like this!

I can't believe you asked that question when I caught this on it.

Another thing, dash cams are cheaper and more available than most people think. This little thing, which is about half the size of a pop can, sits up behind my rear view mirror, I don't even see it from the drivers seat. Loop records to a 16G SDCard, starts all on it's own when I start the car, I don't ever touch it on any regular basis. GPS, shock sensor, sound, google maps integrated... all for about $175 IIRC.

A better question, since you can actually get ones down to about $50-$75, is why more people don't have them? $2000 on stereo equipment or rims but not a dime on something you could drag into court to prove you didn't run the red light... or whatever.

I'll also add that the raw vid is the only way I know that it was a raccoon. I couldn't tell when it happened but on the raw video, before youtube crunched it, you can see the white and black striping on the tail.

I'm actually looking for ANOTHER camera with better night vision. I'll take this one and stick it out the back window. /MIND BLOWN!!

Keep this in mind if you're driving around thinking about doing something stupid because there are no cops around. Doesn't mean a cop won't eventually see it....

+1!

Take it from someone who used to unload trucks at UPS and currently works for FedEx Services...of course the size matters, it is just as important as the weight. I had Majestic Honda refuse to ship the HFP Rear Lip, their reasoning being that the item was too large for shipping. Also, why do you think when you ship a package at USPS and it's not one of their standard flat rate boxes, you must enter the exact dimensions of your package in order for the total to be calculated? You can put a 50lb dumbbell into a flat rate box, as long as it fits, and they MUST ship it for the same rate. At UPS, 51+ lb packages did require to be Freight as it was not in our job description to lift over the 50 lb mark. So yes, you're definitely right that weight plays a heavy factor...but I'm just trying to get a point across

Where did you get that number? You're way off! The OEM bumper should cost around $209 and to get it painted $100-150 depending on the shop. If you're going to take it to dealership than expect to pay more. You should be able to put on the new bumper by yourself and you're going to save some $$$ by doing so. You can get a aftermarket bumper if you're okay with it? but beware not all aftermarket bumpers are same and some of them fit perfectly while some don't. If you're lucky you might be able to find used OEM bumper. It shouldn't be a problem thanks to hurricane Sandy

I have been wanting a dash cam for the same exact reason, I thought about a cheap one but I like all your features if I never have to touch it that would be great! sorry about the coon but it sure is strange accident. Once I get some extra cash I will get one like yours.

Where? Well, I don't think I've ever had anything done at a body shop that at least required painting, that cost less than a grand.

I'm guessing:
Bumper removal AND reinstallation - $300 labor
Paint and shop matierials - $150
Labor to paint and finish it - $250
Bumper (if the shop buys it) - $500
$1200

I'll look into putting it on myself though. I had wondered about that, I actually enjoy projects like that. Thanks for the tip on the aftermarket bumpers.
