My daughter has a 1999 2dr accord, which makes this high pitched squeel when backing up. the car makes no noise in drive and drives fine. any ideas?

Bad Transmission?

Also, my godmothers odyssey had a squealing noise with a rattle that was caused by a loose heat shield on the cat.

This is coming from the rear end. My first thought is rear brakes, but it only does it in reverse. It has that same sound as brakes squeeling though.

Sometimes rear brakes will just make the squeal in reverse at first. Have them checked!

We need more info really.. What area is the noise coming from? does it vary in pitch with speed? does applying the handbrake-footbrakes effect the sound.. etc etc..
