Mt. bikes

Anyone got opinions on Mt. bikes. My prince is "hankering" to buy a new one. He'd be replacing a nice, but old & heavy by today's standards, Diamondback.

He's doing research now for a future purchase. Since you guys are such a wonderful source, I thought I'd ask here!

He likes to go play in the dirt behind the college near us. He used to take it to work & ride at lunch, but they shortened the break to 30 minutes & wasn't worth it anymore.

The Honda named ones don't seem to be made by Honda & they're heavy. He checked!

Any ideas??

I have a Kona Blast

Gary Fisher's are good, but pricey. It all depends if he wants a hard tail or full suspension.

He wants full.....we're old, remember!

These links are very helpful. He's got lots of decisions to make about what he wants from the looks of it! Thanks so much!

I knew I could count on you all!!

He went with the Giant NRS2. He decided not to go with shocks on front & back. In his studying, found out that's not for him after all. It's black.

The only negative is that he chose to do this after work tonight, which meant he was late. He did call, but he had cold chicken anyway!

I'd planned on killing him when he arrived, but he survived. He always seems to survive buying his toys! He's never ended up on the couch yet....lucky for him, that's not my style!

Thanks for the input...I think! It really did help aim him to places that he could gather up info.

Really can't go wrong with the Giant. I think it is the best value for the dollar. I have many, many miles on mine. I agree on the suspension decision. I have found that suspenion on the rear wheel just causes pedaling to be that much more difficult. The only benefit comes if you do a lot of off road cycling (it then keeps the rear wheel in contact with the ground, but does not really soften the ride). Being in my LATE 40's I off road only once in a blue moon.

If he believes he wants to cush it up a little without making the pedaling more difficult, he can always get a suspension seat post.

It's an '04.

No gifts for me.... I think I should get my "allowance" plus his for a few weeks!

They knocked 300 off to get him to buy it now. So it was less than he'd been seeing them for.

I'd rather been starting on the Xmas shopping that he whines about every year! He claims were going to drop the grown kids, but we never do! Usually I've got a start on it by now & done by turkey day....but I haven't even made plans & lists! I also usually have the 60+ cards written out by Halloween.... (I used to send 260, most to teens, when ours were aso teens.....kids from the youth activites)

Seems like I'm having a harder time this year getting that holiday spirit going..... I have no idea why.....

His reason was the physics.....it would actually use more energy.... he explained it all to me, but I let it go out the other ear!

Sounds like you guys are about the same age... Eating more protein, veggies & low carbs has made his aches from arthritis disappear! He'd been a meat & potato eater. This has felt like a miracle to him!!
