Performance and Gas Milage
Hello Everyone,
I seem to be loosing gas mileage on my 2004 accord coupe EX v6. Part of it may be due to weather. However, how often should I replace the air filter? Also, would reduction in performance be due to a fuel filter problem? What about spark plugs? It feels like I have been getting reduced power since I bought it. Some of it may be due to reving the engine or sudden starts on the gas peddle. I posted these issues here before and it didn't seem to be related to transmission because as I step lightly on the gas, I don't feel jerkyness as the engine changes gears. Its only when I don't apply enough pressure. |

What does "seem to be losing gas mileage" mean? You're guessing? I kinda think so? It's down by 12.5 miles per gallon? What?
This a way too vague to offer an answer without some facts.... |

I look at the the odometer and I have 25,1 something miles. to the right when ever I used to reach 300 miles, I would need to fill up the gas tank.
I have Accord 2004 Coupe EX V6 |

Also, there isn't much peformance as there was when I bought it. The only gerk I get when I accelerate, is when I don't get the rpms high enough to switch gears. Usually its at 2000 rpms when I switch gears.
Oops I also forgot to say I have an automatic transmission |

Omg... I just checked the troubleshooting page on my ownerslink. This may be a narrowed clue. I do get this clicking noise almost like what you hear on a truck engine. But it is very slight.

Okay. So...
- automatic tranny - V6 engine - 25,1xx miles - you like to rev the engine - you do sudden starts All that combined is going to automatically reduce your MPGs. If you're stuck in stop-n-go traffic or drive mostly on streets or deal with lots of traffic lights, that's also going to lower your MPGs. The only way to really know for sure if you're getting lower than normal MPGs is to fill up your tank until it's full, reset the trip A or B meter to zero and drive until you need to refill. When you do need to refill, go back to the exact gas station and pump (if possible) and note how many gallons of gas were required to fill it up again. Take those gallons and divide it into the number of miles driven as noted by your trip A or B meter. You'll now have a MPG figure. Repeat this again a few more times and see if it's dropping or not. Also keep in mind that you will get slightly lower MPGs with the winter blend of gas. |

alright. What about the performance problem? Or is it my imagination? By the way, I don't rev the engine intentionally. Its all because of traffic in some areas of where I live.

Hi,
did you find out what was causing your MPGs to go down, I have a similar problem, I asked a bunch of guys here and I've recalculated my MPGs and they come to be 21.32MPG 95%city driving with traffic lights. Any suggestions.

Are you in a cold climate? Cold temps and winter blend gas will cause your MPG to drop. Mine is down from a solid low to mid 27 to a hair below 25.

Hi, Thanks for getting back to me, well yeah I moved to Canada and its pretty cold right now, but you see the 21.32 MPG is on my 2003 Accord EX-L V4 coupe. My wife drives a 97 Accord EX V4 and the miles on that are roughly 31MPG. So I dont know if the cold climate factor plays in my case. What do you think?

Above you said you drive a V-6?? Which is it, I-4 or V-6? The mileage you indicate would certainly not be unusual for a V-6 but it would be somewhat low for a 4-cyl...and did the drop in MPG seem to coincide with the arrival of the colder weather?
Edit...oops...I just realized you are not the original poster....sorry...yes, I believe your MPG is somewhat low for a 4-cyl. depnding on your driving habits.

It is under warranty, right? I would take it in and let them diagnose it. Low MPG could be caused by a number of issues not limited to plugged fuel filter, old air filter, plugged injectors...etc, etc.....
