08 Blue Coupe EX new owner

Sup guys,

I am a new member here and I just purchased a Blue EX Coupe. Will be picking it up tomorrow. I just got a question for you guys. When loooking at Honda.com, it says the ex model comes with a security system. Is the security system the anti-theft device (with the key having special codes?). Or is the security system an alarm? The thing is that I asked the guy at the dealership if it came with an alarm system, he said no. But if i wanted, i can install an alarm and also an auto start system for $450 dollars. So the question is..is the alarm a standard feature or no? ill post up pics as soon i get my car tomorrow.
thanks guys

The security system works thusly: when you hit the "Lock" button twice you hear the horn beep. If a window or door lock is jimmied with, then horn goes off causing all sorts of racket. It can be deactivated only by unlocking the door with the key (I don't think the buttons alone will deactivate it at that point).

And yes, your sweet new EX does have this feature. Personally, I wouldn't worry about an aftermarket alarm system unless you're just in a really bad area.

BTW, welcome and congrats!!

I agree with Darth here. If you lived in Camden NJ or Philly, I would get some added protection. I am thinking about LoJack. Anyone with personal experiences with it please speak up.

Also, welcome and congrats. BTW...That blue for the coupe is really nice.

I don't think he was trying to "jipp" you...just trying to sell you an accessory. It IS his job, ya know. =)

yea i mean, i would understand for the auto start..but i dont understand why hes trying to sell me an alarm when the car has an alarm itself..lol
he said he would hook me up..100 for the alarm..and 350 for the autostart..so 450 all together...

btw, do you guys have any videos on your cars? i would love to see em.

Nice!!!
Is it a stick?
I ordered mine EX Coupe 4 cyl. with a stick. They told me nobody in FL has it, and it might take up to 3 months.
Which state are you in?
Sorry about the off topic.

We just put down a deposit on a V6 MT Blue on Saturday... still waiting to hear when we'll get it...

PS: The dealer where we test drove the MT? He was trying to talk us out of the blue. Told me that 'noone' orders the blue. Hmmm. Needless to say, we didn't go with him...

sup man,

nah, the car is auto. i live in brooklyn, ny and my old car was was the 2000 celica gts 6 spd manual. got very tired of driving stick in heavy traffic. decided to go for a little change. probably get back to manual after 2-3 years.
the blue doesnt look as good in the pictures. looks much better in person.
hopefully, you'll get your car soon. i should be picking mine up in a few hours right after i get off from work.

This is what all Hondas come with. There is not alarm on the car at all. There are no shock impact sensors installed on the car from the factory. If somene breaks the window or Jimmy's the door nothing will happen at all. The Wave Key and Immobilizer Theft-Deterrent System pertains to the key only. If you live in a high crime area it would be good to get a alarm but if you live in a safe area and are not worried about the car then dont get one.

I disagree...and suggest you get in the car and arm it by hitting the lock button on your key...then wait till the diode on the dashboard changes into different frequency flash...try to open the door from inside not using the key remote: HORN ALARM GOES OFF!
Secondary anti-theft defense is the immobilizer; the car will not start and unblock the steering wheel if one does not use the right key (chip embedded).

And to disarm it after you open it from the inside hit the lock button on the door of the car and the horn will stop going off. This is just a error that happens with your keyless entry system. It has nothing to do with the Wave Key and Immobilizer Theft-Deterrent System. To give you an example the number one stolen car in America right now is the Cadillac Escalade, $40000 SUV that uses PASS-Key III+ technology. This is basically the same thing that Honda uses. Here is a something from one of the articles on the Cadillac. Please don’t take me the wrong way of trying to say get a alarm system. I am just giving out information that I think people should know.

"This is the fourth year in a row that the Escalade has topped the list of vehicles most likely to have a theft claim. In fact, Cadillac Escalade EXT luxury pickup truck shows overall theft losses that are 16 times higher than the average.

"The overall results show the Escalade has not only the highest rate of claims but also very expensive claims when they are filed," says Kim Hazelbaker, HLDI senior vice president. "In fact, almost one-quarter of theft claims for the Escalade are for $40,000 or more, indicating that thieves often are stealing the whole vehicles and not just their parts."

Surprisingly, the Escalade's theft losses have been the highest in recent years even though this vehicle is equipped with a standard anti-theft ignition immobilizer which is designed to prevent the vehicle from being started without the proper key. Cadillac redesigned the Escalade for 2007 and upgraded its anti-theft system; however it's too soon to know if the new model will have a lower theft rate than the previous ones"

it doesn't matter how good of an alarm you have, if the people stealing cars have a tow truck

That is a very good point. There are some new alarms that have mercury switches in them so the alarm knows the car is being moved thus it will go off. I don’t know how affective that will be when someone is getting their car put on a flat-bed. Most people would think it was a repo or something, but the alarm would go off and you would hear it if you are near when it happens. Nothing would happen with the car with just the factory Anti-theft system.

wassup guys,
I just picked up my car not too long ago and boy does it look goood. Its too late right now so I didnt have the time to take any pics. I have to bring it back to the dealership for them to install the fog lights. Then probably a week or two, Im going to get 20% tints all around.
As for the alarm system, I have confirmed that the car does not come with a factory alarm system. The security system is just the anti-theft key system.
My car is now equipped with a remote started and alarm system. I know most of you would agree its kinda pointless for an alarm but here in brooklyn, its better to have it than not too..just makes me feel a little safe..lol
anyway, my car so far only has 32 miles on it. i took her easy and drove only 50 mph. ive never driven so slow on a highway with friggin vans and trucks high beaming me. lol
i usually do that to people but now when I am in their shoes, I kinda feel bad so I wont do it again..unless they drive like 20 or 30 on the highway!!
