Appreciation for Accord

After 30 years of never commuting more than 2 miles, I've moved to where the commute is 45 miles each way. I have gained a great appreciation for my '03 V6 EX Accord. Commute is half on interstate and half on 2 lane rural roads. So far the ride has been comfortable and confident. Highway speeds around 80 are normal at 5 am around here. The Accord just cruises at highway speeds and the auto temperature control is great. The 240 hp is useful getting on and off ramps and from side road to side road. I have always enjoyed driving the Accord, but having to use it daily gives me a whole new appreciation for how much you get for a not great price. I actually look forward to my hour in the car each morning. The drive home gives me time torelax and let the day's tensions ooze out. A shorter city commute of less than 2 miles used to take 20-25 minutes and cause jangled nerves. For all the small problems I have had with the Accord, as a got to sit in it every day for 2 hours car, it is great.

I can definitely relate...after work, it is a nice reward to get into such a nice car after putting up with !@#$% all day. And you can open the sunroof and just relax, or crank up some music and be aggressive on the drive home. The Accord is just as capable and happy either way.

if you drive in PA, construction barrels have to be relaxing, or else you're too busy dodging them...

i can honestly say that, at the end of the day, even though it may not be the fastest, or cleanest, or the best at anything while on the road, my appreciation for honda is always there, no matter what....even if it blows up tomorrow, i can honestly say that i still got my money's worth out of it...212k miles and counting...

appreciation (cont.)

After a week or so of good weather, took the commute in sloppy, drizzle, fog, and showers. Still like the accord. I have had several new cars over the years and the only one that came close in enjoyment (don't laugh now) was a 1997 Ford Contour with the 6 cylinder and a 5 speed manual shift. That car had all the goodies (bought it off the showroom floor at the end of the model year) and was a great driver's car. The Accord is automatoc but I can enjoy the extra hp and not having to wear out my left leg in traffic. Glad I am not alone in enjoying driving back and forth.

I LOVED my 1995 Contour V6 5 speed. I modded the heck out of it, and finally sold it at around 130k to a kid down the street. I still miss that car.

That being said, I do enjoy my 04 Accord. I can relate to the commute (60 miles each way for me). It does help to get rid of the stress before you get home. =)

I don't have a commute, but I still love the way I feel when I'm driving my car. It feels confident, yet relaxing.

i think the problem is everyone expects 150% from their hondas! the newer ones are still awesome cars! people just have to realize a car will never be perfect no matter what!

Yep, there were recalls on the old ones too! They were so noisey that you'd rarely notice the rattles & stuff...

I bought a newer one and I still agree the older ones are better. They seem to be made better with much less problems, especially in the automatic transmission. Granted, cars have gotten heavier and engines more power, so we know why the trannies are failing more now than before. But still - I've seen the last generation quite often go 200+ even 300+K easily with no problems - what about Honda?
