TCB completed. 3rd gear is much better. Smoother....No resistance...shifts like the other gears.

2 days ago. But somehow the mechanic got power steering fluid all over the engine. They said they cleaned it up but it leaked on my driveway. They looked at it again and cleaned up the excess fluid AGAIN and found an unrelated bad seal on the tranny too which has been ordered. They said a hose on the power steering reservoir came off and the fluid went everywhere. In fact some of my engine looks brand new. I guess the cleaning did some good.
The car shifts much better though-whether it lasts is anyone's guess . But it should be done anyway IMHO.

^ damn, that sounds like sloppy work. I think I'll wait for elp_jc to post his findings on if/how fully synthetic tranny oil helps with the problem before I let a dealer take apart my car

Thanks for the insight, though.

If you can get a dealership to basically give you a brand new transmission for free, then why not do that. Then if later down the line the problem returns, you can take it back to the dealer and complain or try the GM fluid. That is what I plan on doing. So far since having the service done in June, I have had no recurring problems.

They really have to dig in there to do this TSB, so there's enough of a chance that they'll mess something up putting it all back together that makes me uncomfortable the whole thing.

Ramon, you got it done yet? I stay away from Grace and Serramonte, both because of bad experiences. I hesitate to recommend Mike Harvey, they replaced my Ody tranny even though I have a ATF temp gauge and Magefine on it, and the work was okay - but they almost screwed me by recommending to replace the starter and battery cable both at once when it wasn't starting. I told them do one thing at a time and turns out it was the battery cable and not the starter; if I let them do both at once I'd have been paying $450 for an unneeded starter.

Nope. I haven't had the time lately. The tranny has generally been okay, except on colder mornings (like we've been getting lately) and after sitting in the parking garage all day (while I'm at work). I also have just one car, so it's difficult to get the work done without disrupting everything else I need to do.

Thanks for the tip on those other dealerships. Looks like I'll be talking to the dealer that sold me the car (Anderson) when I'm ready. I'm not sure how their service department is, though, as I've never actually dealt with them before (except during the original purchase and vehicle prep work for my last two Accords). I guess I'll find out when I talk to them.

At least you guys in the US can have this done...Honda still will not accept that TSB here in Canada (although don't get me started on how stupid that is...heh).

The newer MTF has helped me if I replace it yearly...but I have been noticing 3rd is getting a bit worse with time...probably from having it pop out and grind when I try to accelerate the odd time.

The Honda dealership is trying to make this right. The 6 speed has a design defect-
I already had the new updated fluid put in my car and the problem was still there. Obviously Honda would not send the $$$$$ if the 6 speed could be fixed with an upgraded fluid. 3rd gear is now smooth and has no roughness at all-no notchiness.
I used to hope 3rd gear would not grind or pop out of gear on each shift. Now, it's finally smooth after 2 years AT least for the last 2 days..

I found that out too while talking to a local Honda dealership, their reasoning was that Honda Canada "monitors" the situation and will only validate the TSB "if there are enough complaints" to warrant it.......

Time to try the GM stuff!

I would appeal that decision to Honda Corporate. That make no sense unless the Canadian Hondas have different 6 speed transmissions. Especially since the cold weather seems to accentuate the problem. At least I would make some NOISE!!!

3 weeks since tcb done. Leak fixed. tranny is smooth as silk; better than my
s2000. Those that don't have this done are cheating themselves or paranoid. It's like night and day!! Very satisfied... if you don't have it done and have the 3rd gear problem, quit griping about Honda. They are spending a lot of $$$$$$$ to make this right.
