Black Accord Owners

Black accord owners, how often do u wax and wash ur cars? I think im waxing too often. I used carnauba once a month and spay on wax every friday evening at a 24 hour car wash. I soap soak the car then fill a bucket and hand wash it. I pat dry and wax and wipe off with straight lines not in circles and i still get dam hairline scratches.(I use a micrfiber cloth) I stopped by a local autobody shop and asked him about paint sealant and he said it was crap and didnt work. This black car is an uphill battle. Usually a wash /wax can take 2 and a half hours by hand. (I live in a apt, so 24hr carwash) What are all u black accord owners doing?

I live in an apt too.

I get those hairline scratches (micro marrs) too and i use mf and wool mitt products. I don't use Carnuba wax (it lasts a very little time, I heard maybe like 2 weeks). I use Meguiars Gold (hopefully that is a synthetic wax (sealant) not a carnuba, and I do this every 5 months or so.

Someone tell me if Meguiars Gold is actually carnuba or not...I thought it said sealant on it but I don't trust these terms being thrown around. I want long lasting protection not show car finish.

A black car on an apartment? You guys are brave indeed.
I've never known of a person who buys a black car and does it again. I'm in that club. My first (and only) black car was a '90 Accord Coupe EX, as a matter of fact. Even though it was in a garage, with 3 months of 100+ temps, and strong winds on a dusty desert most of the year talk about a PITA. But yeah, for a minute after washing it it looked great. Later.

I invested in the Dealer internal/external protection package $450. The original price was $1200. I kept telling them no until they made a final offer of $450. Lifetime warrenty. Guarantees no swirls and I never have to wax.

I don't live in the desert. Ohio. No dusty winds here. Lots of thunder storms.

You can't really wax too often, more of the swirls and tiny scratches are probably happening when you wash the car. There are some ways to prevent them (2 bucket method, etc), but you are right, it's an uphill battle. I am so careful when washing and keep my car glazed/waxed, yet I keep noticing more and more swirls. Honda clearcoats are ridiculously soft and if you look at them funny they will scratch. The best thing to do is just prevent them as much as possible but don't try to keep the car looking perfect b/c a black honda will drive you crazy.

http://www.autopia.org/forum/ ; enjoy ; carnuba is great for shine . but lasts 2 or so weeks maybe 3 weeks. what you need is a system . first a paint cleanser not just a wash , then a synthetic wax (sealant), then top it of with a carnuba . here ; http://www.autopia.org/forum/detaili...r-s-guide.html ; id suggest klasse . id also suggest p21s or pinnacle sovernion . or Maguires yellow tech wax. all carnuba waxes as toppers. you just need some soft wash to wash with . also the p21s paintclenser is prime stuff and for between waxes you cant beat the pearls car wash shampoo . so list here

1* soft wash car
2*p21s paint cleanser or better yet klasse all in one cleanser .
3* klasse sealant 3 coats
4 carnuba wax. 3 coats
this will last about 3 months depending on sun.

* in between washes with pearls shampoo

My car is garage kept and I polish it with a product called liquid glass probably once every 2 weeks or on various areas as needed. I put it on more often for the front bumper, Hood, trunk, and rear bumper. I also used to use meguairs spray on touch up wax, but i stopped using it because it seemed like it was leaving a greasy residue that i didnt like. I wash my car almost every other day sometimes everyday, just depends on the weather and how much I drove it. It rains alot down here during the summer. A black car is a beeeatttch to keep clean. If you dont stay ontop of it and use clean microfiber clothes to clean it with its gonna look like crap quick. NEVER take a black car through an automatic carwash, you will regret it! Also DO NOT wash or wax it while its hot or in the sun!

Well my 08 Accord isn't black...my last car (99 mazda 626 V6) was black and I washed it every other day, waxing it once a month. Black cars are a bitch to keep clean. I also used the pat-dry method and still got scrathes here and there but i never used touch up wax on that car because once it rained u can see where tha wax drips off but i used a good olfi chamouis rag, Microfiber rags and my secret weapon...diapers...

My secret weapon for my black car...

*electric-powered blower*

It blows off all the water wickedly fast in no time at all after washing. There's no streaking, water-spots, or anything. Use "The Absorber" (a synthetic towel-like sponge) to soak up any residual/remnant water.

My general regimen...

- 1wash/month in the shade
- soft, chamois-like sponge-glove for washing
- separate washing-mitt for side-skirts, wheel-well arches, lower front/rear bumpers
- soft-sponge for wheels, wheel-well liners, tires
- 2-bucket method
- clay-bar every season (usually twice a year)
- paint-cleaner wax every 4 washes (4 times a year)
- polish every season (usually twice a year)
- 2-coats paste/liquid wax every-other wash (6 times a year)
- quick-detailer w/ MF-towel once a week

(I don't use a synthetic sealant/glaze as it gives a glass-like finish; I prefer the depth/gloss that carnuba/natural wax gives)

Liquid Glass is strong. I always thought it was for much older paint finishes. If you look at the cloth after buffing, you see paint residue. It do leave a nice shine though.

I have packs of microfiber rags I buy from Costco that I polish the car with. No paint comes off at all on them. Liquid Glass is a light detailing polish, that doest last very long. Nothing strong or waxxy about it. Normal turtle wax is way stronger.
