First Tranny change @83k!!!

okay, here is what transmission oil looks like after miles and miles of neglect. Dont let this happen to your honda... change your tranny oil frequently!

I think I am pretty safe in assuming that the transmission has never been drained on my accord. I could not believe how much of a difference there was between the stuff I was putting in and the stuff that came out.

The new stuff looks like sweet and sour sauce and the stuff that came out looks almost like motor oil but not as black.

needless to say, I will be keeping a very close eye on it and keep fresh fluid in there.

Change 2.6 qts I4 3.1 qts V6
Total 6.4 qts I4 7.6 qts V6

Doesn't the manual recommend about 100,000 miles?

I feel like I'm missing something when the manual for my 02 says to change the auto transmission fluid at 100 or 120k miles? I know the Odyssey is very touchy about that and they recommend about 45k miles. I wonder why the difference?

Welcome to the forum Ralph.

Money or cost of ownership is why they say 100k......

Many manufacturers have decided that if you can go 100k with only oil changes consumers will buy into that program.

My 02 was purchased used and had fluid change @ 50k 75k and 100k
I will do again @ 102 and 104k

If you check through the forums you will find others who have shortened intervals.

The Odyssey actually specifies a triple flush at 45K, which seems dumb to me. Some owners have just flushed it every 15K, which makes more sense. It would keep cleaner fluid overall in the tranny.
