A\C Questions sounds like a diesel engine

A\C Questions sounds like a diesel engine. Why does my car sound so bad with the A\C on. Also Some times its really cold and other times it dosn't seem to work

V6 ex 4dr 2003.

either a bad compressor, bearing, or compressor clutch. Have them checked, you'll be glad you did, if the bearing or clutch fails it could (unlikely but possibly) throw the belt off.

If you hear abnormal noises from that compressor, get it replaced asap. If it does detonate, and send all it's guts through the system. It will cost you more than a small fortune if it does that.
The compressor should make little or no noise. Many do whine a bit at lower rpms, but grinding or knocking is NOT right.
