Power Steering Noise

I've got a really loud noise from my power steering pump.
  • It's only when cold
  • It sounds like a groan, not a squeal
  • Fluid is topped off (with Honda fluid)

Any ideas?

There is a TSB about whining... not sure if that is the case with groaning too. The whining fix is about 5 minutes job: http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/at...1&d=1200936994

This post is a life saver. I was just at the dealership getting a quote on a replacement pump.

power steering fix

I had the same problem. I tried flushing the system first and that only made it worse. Then i read this post, picked up the new o-ring from the dealer and changed in less than 5 minutes.

No more noise!

This is the sweetest fix for $1.25. I was about to pay $220 for a new pump.

How difficult is it to do this change? Sounds easy...? Do I need any special tools?

It's as easy as it sounds, you just need a wrench and some paper towels

Nice, I just got home from the dealer. They wanted to charge me $220 to do this. I said no thanks.

When performing this TSB, how much power steering fluid is lost in the process? Is it minimal or does one have to buy more fluid?

It's a very small amount, especially if the car has been sitting for a while, but get a bottle to top it off anyway.

Be sure to get a Honda approved one. Pretty much no price difference.

LOL, do we carge the guy for changing a inexpensive seal or do we soak him for a new power steering pump....................no wonder people don't trust or want to go to a shop.

Dude, the $220 was for the O-ring change and a fluid flush (which is unnecessary). He was trying to convince me the pump is going and that was well over $500. They also would not fix my stereo lights under the extended warranty. I took it to another dealer a year ago to have the light issue fixed (only the buttons are out, not the LED screen) and they were more than willing to do it. I couldn't have it done then though cause I was leaving town and they had to order the parts. The dealer here sucks.

As you can see from my other thread, he also denied the v6 has transmission issues.

Oh! That is a ripoff... I thought it was 50 cents

(maybe if you guys point the dealers to this site and tell them you are a member here then they'll look at you in a whole different way, I am sure they know what the internet is, don't they? LOL)
