Question Dunlop tires on 6th gen appear to be wearing at edges

It may just be the tire design but the Dunlops on my 02 Accord look like they are wearing on the edges. The last groove is much shallower than the rest. Does anyone have any experience with this? They may be that way brand new, I don't know since I bought the car used. I'll get the model and try to look it up.

Oh, this is my first post here. Nice looking forum.

I think it's just the tire. Here's a pic. The last groove towards the edge of the tire seems a lot shallower than the others. My driving is very normal, and I keep about 30 PSI in my tires. Thanks for the welcome, stillerfan. Yes, I hope to learn a lot more about this car. I had a hard time finding a decent Accord forum until now.

My Michelin's also seem to be wearing more towards the edges even with a proper alignment and 33PSI inflation.

If you're talking about the one wayyyy the heck over on the edge past the last cut line, those tend to be shallower from the factory.

Yes, the ones on the edge are now gone, so I wonder if I am going to fail inspection because of that? I think I will be looking for a different brand next time, even though I have always liked Dunlops before. Why would that outer groove be so shallow?

When's the last time you got your alignment checked? How many miles on your car?

Dunlops have always worn quickly for me, too. Michelins have always worn a lot longer, but they offer less grip on dry roads than the Dunlops. I seems like Dunlops use a much softer rubber and has softer sidewalls than the Michelins of comparable performance.

WIll you give me a signed note, please?

I bought the car two years ago with 33,000 miles on it. It now has 67,000 - no alignments yet.

BTW, these things are not so great in the snow, and I'm sure that baldish area on the edges does not help.

Under inflation.

When we had our last cold snap I checked the tire pressures at 0-f temp. 30 psi front and 28 psi in the rear. Just in 40 miles the tires where already feathering the edges. Got the pressures back up to 40psi front and 38psi rear and all was back to normal. Checked them today and had only lost 1 psi.

It's not underinflation. It's just the way the 6th gen is. When I got new tires, I got an alignment. I even looked at the specs before and after and I know they are correct. My tires are at 35PSI and have never dropped below 32, and the car never sees temp variations of more than 20 degrees when I start driving. I always check cold (55 degrees ambient, sitting for 10+ hours). My tires still wear on the inside edge just a tick faster, and my car is hardly ever loaded with people (increase neg camber). Can't put it any better than that...it's not killer to have the inside wear just that much faster...believe me your average person won't notice it.

Now that these things are about half way through their life, they are horrendous in the wet and snow since the rain sipes on the edge are gone. It's such a bad design I'm thinking of complaining to Dunlop since I need to replace them even though they're only about half worn on the main tread. I can't live with them being being bald on the outer edges.
