Wiper blade inserts

I replaced my OEM blades a few months ago with aftermarket blades and as most of you already know they don't work as well.

After researching the forum I ordered OEM refills from handa-accessories and they came today - only problem is they don't include the metal inserts.

Since I tossed the old blades (luckily I kept the arms) I need some inserts. The dealer told me that they don't sell just the inserts and I could buy the blades with inserts for around $40 for one set (ouch!).

So, is someone willing to check theirs and let me know the length, width, and thickness of these things? I can probably buy just a strip of steel to cut to length once I know the dimensions - hate to pay $40 just to get those inserts.

Thanks,
Bruce

I am looking for the metal strips that go into the sides of the blade inserts - is that what you got at the dealer, or did you buy blade refills to put into the wiper arms?

I would suggest checking with a salvage yard. You might get lucky and find some OEM blades with the metal inserts you are looking for. I think the metal inserts are some type of stainless steel and it might be hard to find that material at a local store. You can always try ebay for new or used OEM wipers to match your car. Listing the make and year would help inspire those who might have spare parts laying arround.

Good Luck

My bad, I just re-read your post and I know what you are talking about now. Your best bet is going to be a salvage yard like the previous poster said.

I measured the slot in the blade insert the best I could - it appears to be .125-in wide and about .040-in thick. The hardware supply store has a minimum order for this kind of thing that will cost me as much as the OEM wipers.

Boy do I wish that I hadn't thrown out the old blades... I may check around at the local yards like others have suggested before going the dealer route.

Thanks again guys for the suggestions.

Um...Ok. I'm running aftermarket blades and they're working just fine on mine, better actually. Did you but them at the dollar store or something?

Your only feasible options are the salvage yard or cheap aftermarket ones that have a comparable ss metal strip that you can use for the stock inserts.

Yup!

I just bought a set of these for another car, they are VERY good. I would not use conventional blades again after using the Valeo Ultimates.
