Got sued for accident

Hi there,
Long store short, I had a accident 14 months ago in snowy Michigan day. I hit a Grand cherokee from behind, the other party called the police and police came. I was at fault and got a ticket. nobody was injured and the damage were minor for Grand cherokee. I fired claim to my insurance company and thought I was done with it.
But today got a call from my insurance company, the other party hired a lawyer and filed sue will serve to me.
I don't know the detail about the sue yet. I am scare right now couldn't sleep well. Is anybody here have the similar experience? Can anybody give me advice what should I do and what's going to happen next.

I will have more detail of the law sue when I talk to my insurance company tomorrow, will post more detail.

My dad once rearended a cab driver in NYC on his way to church . And 1 year later my dad recieved a letter stating the cab driver was trying to sue my dad for 1 million in damages . My dad was pissed but it was cleared that the police had him at fault because he rear ended the driver in front of him ( so it was 3 cars and the cabby was pushed by my dad and hit the car in front of him ) but they handled everything . And dropped the case obviously cause he was a scam !

I'm not really sure if this helped at all in your situation but hope every thing goes well ! !

I don't think it is a wise thing to be discussing your law SUIT on a public message board.

Usually the insurance company deals with it. Let us know how things play out.

Hopefully the judge will throw it out since it's been so long, but if not and you lose I hope you have sufficient coverage to cover the damages.

i wouldn't sweat it... with the economy going the way it is, more and more people are filing frivalous lawsuits... and typically once a person accepts claim from an insurance company, they've lost their power to sue...

sounds frivoulous... don't worry my friend.

its a routine everyday accident, you are dealing with a moron who is probably living at home out on disability and trying to mooch off of the hard workers of this country. he obviously is looking for a reason to get money and this is the best he came up with. plus he contacted a lawyer who convinced him to take you to court.. you have ins for the sole purpose of situations like this.... whoever your insurance compnay is... they have way deeper pockets than this cherokee moron... if he does try and bring this to court, he will realize really quick how expensive this is and probably bail out...

only reason i can see him suing you is if all of the compansation, "ins $" is maxed out and he cant get anything else from your ins company.. he would have to be seriously injured for that to happen and not be able to work.. so maybe hes trying to claim that he went to a doc after the accident and found out he has permanent disc displacement in his back and cant work... so therefore you are the reason for all of this and you need to pay... look into this guy, see if hes employed or out on disability, collecting social security disability..

i really want to know what happens with this, sounds very interesting, when i was younger i was sued for a million dollars to over something really stupid and nothing ever came up of it and it just got swept under the rug like nothing happened.. you have to realize to that it could be a scare tactic to.... this person may be trying to scare you so you will contact them and say ok, i dont want to go to court and possibly have to pay you 1 million, instead ill settle outside of court for 20 grand... thats just an example.. it could be a scare tactic to try and get you to cough up some dough for this doosh.

As the previous poster said there may have been some long term injury claim that maxed out the insurnace coverage, so now they can sue you if they think you are rich. If you do not have any big luxury assets like vacation homes, car collections, etc you will not have anything to worry about. They can't take your wages, regular home or car you use for work. Talk to your insurance agent or a lawyer.

Good Luck

My mom was sued as well for an accident by some wannabe scam artists.

She was changing lanes from behind a bus and someone in a truck signaled her she could go in front. When she proceeded the truck drove into her, suffering hardly any damage, in fact drove off at first and returned like 10 minutes later (weird, I have no idea what they were thinking).

Anyway they were flipping out and screaming for my mom to get out of the car and shit, so we waited for the police to come.

So we find out they are trying to sue some time later, meanwhile their car maybe had some scratches on it and possibly a broken bumper. Literally like 5 years or so later the case was dropped because they couldn't find a lawyer to back their ridiculous claims.

Good luck man, hope everything goes in your favor. I hate when a**holes like that try to abuse our legal system.

This is when you find a lawyer and file a counter suit for everything they have. I remember Juwan Howard of the NBA did this when some woman tried to scam in with a frivolous lawsuit.

Not so! At least in my son's case. He was a driver for Dominoe's & he rear ended a car @ a stop light a year ago. Luckily he was only going 5 miles an hour. No damage to the other car & minor damage to my son's. No injuries @ the time but about a month later we rec'd word from GEICO that the other person was suing for neck injuries. Never heard anything about it since then. But then we've been with GEICO when they were only issuing policies to Gov't personnel & we also have our house insured through them.
