Conspiracy to create more starter motor/battery claims???
If you pre-fill your oil filter, you are doing enough. There is virtually no load on an engine at idle, and residual oil in the system will lubricate the engine sufficiently at startup, regardless of oil low oil pressure.

18. Top up the oil to the upper hole on the dipstick but do not overfill. The highest notch on the dipstick is the fully hot/overfill mark. The oil level shouldn’t be any higher than the second hole even when hot.
^^ is that true? If so, I'm in trouble... |

My oil light goes off in 2 seconds after I change oil. I don't think all the extra crapolla is worth the time & trouble.

That dude must work for the Government and change his oil while he is at work(when he's not on line) .
Oh well it sounds like good advice for subby owners... heck why not tear down and rebuild after every drive since it's such a race car I1

all that is a waste of time. unless you let your engine sit without oil for hours on end, there will still be a layer of oil on the surface of everything in the engine. In fact, when a car is parked all the oil is in the pan!

Don't worry about overfilling if it's still below the "max" mark when it's cold.. Engine oil doesn't expand that much when warm.. I like having more oil than less.. Your car always burn a little bit of oil anyway. It's ATF that expands by like 20% or something when warm.. .. That's why there's two sets of max-min marks on most ATF dipsticks... One for the cold reading and one for the hot.

F6Hawk, you misunderstood my post.. What I meant was you could still use the marks on the dipstick to determine if you have enough oil in the crankcase in all engine oil temperatures. I'm not trying to say that it's ok to add another quart of oil to "top it off" after you've reached the max level on the dipstick.
![]() I stuck in the ATF dipstick example to show that that engine oil doesn't expand as much as ATF when it's heated so the volume difference when it's cold versus hot is negligable. Hope that clears things up.

I lost all interest in the post when I read "DO NOT USE 0W or 5W as it is too thin". They don't know much about oil.

Beyond ANAL about his oil pressure. I'm shocked that he didn't squirt oil down the spark plug holes to lube the rings during the crank time required to bet oil pressure!
