So do you all think we'll hit 5$ per gallon for gas? If so, when?

Heck, it already did in the south today, they said on foxnews that some stations in LA and GA were charging as much as $7 per gallon.

...here in British Columbia, just across the line from what they're paying in Washington state, we're paying $1.21 per liter, which works out to around $4.60 per gallon, doesn't seem to be phasing too many, still lots of hulking SUV's and 4x4's on the road...

cheers, that is, if you feel cheery with all this news,

OK, not counting the gougers!! Like that BP station they showed in Atlanta!! If I see a chain gouging on the news I will be boycotting them here! Not just gas, but if Home Depot or anyone else does & I see it.....I'll be doing my best to avoid them! That's totally uncalled for!

i agree, i won't support gouging co's.... except when it benefits me. ie-bp by my place was the cheapest gas in town by 10 cents per gallon, so you can bet i filled up with it.... 2.59 versus other prices for regular unleaded ranging between 2.69 and 3.19. um, that one affects my personal pocket book way too much so i use what is cheapest regardless.

I voted "never!"... What can I say? I'm optimistic!

The gas stations around here jumped 40 cents in the past week.. My cousins just cam back from their trip to Canada and I was blaming them for bringing the Canadian gas prices back as souvenirs.

Never. Because when we hit about $4 a gallon the government most likely begin regulating gas prices again.

I agree, most statistics are showing once we blow thru $4 average nationwide, its gonna have a serious grind on our economy, way to much discretionary income ending up in peoples tanks and not goods and services.

End of the year probably. And the government is already going to regulate in a few places (state govt that is). Government regulation ****s. Viva la free market.

Hopefully some real alternative energy solutions will be available soon. Maybe the high price of gas/oil was what was needed to hasten the widespread adoption of alternative fuels. I have always believed that technology fixes problems far better than legislation does. Which is probably why in the libertarian part of my mind I believe that engineers would be better of running the Government using minimal laws and lots of technology to solve problems rather than elected people trying to legislate and tax them.

I'd normally agree but not in this case. Oil companies will do anything in their power to screw the consumer and tear them a new one. I just watched a History Channel show about the Trans-Alaskan pipeline. It cost $8 billion to build, and it has brought in $130 billion in profits. That's insane. We blame the Middle East for our oil crisis...what about gouging right here in the good ol USA? Notice I didn't say Canada...they're nice

Well,

There are issues anywhere you care to look however - US would not last even a few months with US only oil. US oil production peaked close to 30 years ago and has been in decline ever since. So there is no choice. Saudi Arabia is the only place that is still increasing production (and that is being questioned too).
