Red face Stupiidest Thing Done!!! HELP!!!

Hello guys,

I am new here.

Long Story Short: Bought a used Accord 2000 lx coupe manual...with problems, repair bills too high, trying to learn how to repair things myself.

And then yesterday, I was cleaning my air cleaner housing (just under the filter where there was sand and a lot of dirt in it). While I was trying to take the bottom off, I broke one of the bolts by pushing too hard.

So I bought a new bolt and as I was trying to put that on, I had my resonate (pipe?) out for ease. Accidental-ly (dont ask how) dropped the bolt into my resonator.

So I know that the resonator is just there to cancel the engine sound out and I know this is the STUPIDEST THING YOU GUYS MUST HAVE HEARD but do I have something to worry about? How would I take that nail out?

I have the Service Manual but it doesnt talk about removing it.

Thanks

Don't worry, there isn't enough vaccum at that part of the resonator to **** it into the intake tract to do any damage plus the resonator is the other side of the air filter anyway.

You just have to size it up in how to remove the resonator and turn it upside down to shake it out, or if you can use one of those magnetic pick-up tools that is like a multi-section radio antenna.

This may be a dumb question on me, but did you do a carfax on that car? Just curious because I never heard of sand inside of the air cleaner housing. Was there any dirt in the intake portion?

I bought one of those telescoping magnets at Sears. Should work perfectly.

Thumbs up

thanks guys.

i guess i wont worry about it for now.

as for the sand comment. i dont know if it was sand but it looked like it (well, with a mixture of other dust particles --silver, brown) it had a lot of dust that didnt go away even after spraying it with water.

the car buying experience has been troublesome...

i did do a carfax and even took it to a mechanic for 2nd opinion. both suggested a good buy (3800$ for accord lx coupe 5 speed--broken passenger mirror and )...

had a 1300$ engine oil leak fixed (camshaft/oil pan), new pad/rotors, tune up, timing belt...

some more repairs: sway bar (stabilizer) links and lower ball joints...then a new set of tires...

and now possibly a clutch repair given the difficulty of changing to 1st after coming to a stop + grinding noise when clutch not depressed...

anyway, thanks a lot for the help guys...

i was freaked out as the haynes manual warned of not dropping anything in there...

oh! yes, the intake was very very dusty...

i guess the lesson is that a vehicle not well maintained is better avoided...even if its a honda...

I would find new mechanics if they didn't see some of theses problems before you bought that car!

I second that!

Clutch problem is not something that just appears one morning when you start the car - it slowly develops and a good mechanic can tell if it's going down the drain.

Ball joints as well - I've had one replaced on my Accord recently, it was not "dead" (sorry, I'm not native English speaker so I can't find better word atm) yet, but I could hear it when, e.g. going over a speed bump.
