17" ASA AR1 wheels?

Does anybody here have these in their 03-05s? Im planning on gettin these for my 05. Tirerack recommends 215-50-17 but the set im buying has 235-45-17. Its actually smaller than the recommended but wider. Offset is 48, sounds to big to me. Whats the right offset for those of you who have 17"s?

235 is kinda wide but I THINK you should be okay. TL's use 235 17's.

7. Im worried about the 48 offset. With a smaller offset you have the option of adding spacers but with too big of an offset there's nothing much you can do bout it. Thanks for all the inputs

they will fit. i checked discounttire.com, and several of the 17x7's they have listed for the Accord have +48 offsets.

The offset is probably -48, not +48. A negative number moves the wheel farther out for a wider stance which is what most aftermarket wheels do.

Here's a direct quote from Discount Tire's site regarding negative offset:

"Note that extensive negative offset can potentially cause increased steering wheel kick-back and place additional stresses on the vehicle's entire suspension."

-48 offset would rub like crazy. the wheel would stick out the side of the car like 4 inches.

The OEM offset is -38 so -48 would put the wheel 10mm farther out, about 1/4 - 1/2inch.

positive/negative offset explained:

i know what negative/positive offset is. go outside and look at your wheel. the hub mounting surface is definitely on the street-side half of the wheel, therefore it has positive offset.

youre right. front wheel drive wheels have a positive offset. my bad. so then are those wheels +48 or -48? if they are +48 then the wheels would sit deeper into the wheel wells. that doesnt make much sense. if they are -48 then they would stick out real far like u said. that doesnt make much sense either.

i dont know what the OEM offsets are...i've read +45 in some places, and i've also read somewhere that the 6MT wheels have a +55 offset?!

i think anywhere from +42 to +48 will be OK...but it depends on how wide the wheel/tire is and how low your car is.

+48 with a 235 tire might cause the tires to rub on the struts, especially if the car is lowered and has a ton of negative camber.

I totally agree. Also considering a mild drop in the future. Should i get these then get spacers and put a little bit more stress on the bolts, suspension and what else...Does anybody here have 17" wheels in their cars and whats the offset and tire size?

finally got them today. I decided against the 235-45-17 tire size and went with a closer to stock size(215-50-17). Not to bad. Looks kinda small but i'll take it. Better than having a harsh ride if i got 18"s. I'll post pics as soon as i get a hold of a digital camera
