Custom Subwoofer install

Hi Everyone-
I was wondering if someone could help guide me to the right place.

I have a 2006 Accord sedan with navigation and am tired of the speakers. I have decided, after reading many forum discussions here, that I am upgrading my fronts speakers with components [recommendations greatly appreciated; headed towards BA S60] and subwoofer.

I am struggling about the best way to put in a subwoofer, or to simply add more bass. I listen to a wildly ecclectic array of music [from Dio to Jay-z to ACDC to Lady Gaga], so want to be able to have enough thump to listen to thunderstuck, but also enough boom to enjoy rap. All while being able to still use my trunk, will the ideal situation of being to easily remove the enclosure. I saw some custom installations by Greg_S a couple years ago that placed 12" woofers in the corners of the trunk. I really liked this since I could fold down my seats and stick the car full of gear.

My all together budget is no more than $600-does any one have any insight?

Thanks so much in advance-
regards,
~benjamin

for subwoofers go jl audio. go with a 10 in sub with a good kenwood or rockfard fosgate amp
for components alpine or infiniti.

Thanks for your recommendations; your subwoofer takes up an immense amount of space

I can tell you one thing when I was getting my system installed professionally. The price for custom enclosure on the side of the trunk like the Greg S version is $100 more than the ported enclosure I ended up with.

You may want to talk to your installer also regarding what type of enclosure is best suited for your music tastes. I'm loving my ported enclosure but it does take up more space vs a sealed box.

Benjamin,

Are you handy with tools? Before my Accord, I had an 01' lifted Ranger which had the extra cab, but it was quite small. Well I wanted a sub no matter what, and of course no box will fit back there. So I ended up making my own custom box which sounds really good, and fit exactly where I wanted it to. Its really not that hard, use some good quality MDF, wood glue, even some stuffing for inside the box, and waa lah.

Use that website, all you need to know.

Looks like half or more of the space is gone though, and I think Benjamin is looking for a build that keeps access of the door between trunk and rear cabin for hauling long items like skis.

there's alot of cheaper sub out there than JL audio, and they sound better too... like FI or RE audio.

The only problem with the JL subs is that they dont hit the low frequency notes that well and are mostly for tight crisp bass.

and BTW Kenwood amps just ****.

Alpine, Rockford Fosgate , JL, Pheonix Gold or the Old school Autotek Mean machines are the amps to go with.

As for Component Speakers, I go with..
Alpine, Infiniti, Pheonix Gold, MB Quartz, Boston Acoustics(if you have the money)

And for a sedan, I would rather go with a single 12" sub. You will get a wider range of frequency with a 12 than a 10" sub.

well i have both my amps and capacitor installed on the door/seat
im still able to access my spare easily, and its oversized because its a ported box with 2 12 inch subs
