TPMS question
Quick question...I have snow tires that I plan on putting on my 09 Accord. I had them on my Acura and I know they fit. Question is, the snow tires do not have the TPMS sensors in them, will that effect anything when I put the snow tires on?

Yes. You will not be able to turn off VSA. And you TPMS light will alway be on.

Unless you put the tires on the rims that are on the car now... otherwise you either live with the TPMS light and the VSA... (if you get stuck, turning off vsa could help, but if you have good tires you shouldn't get stuck)... or get another TPMS set for the winter tires. Note that to install them they're going to have to take the rubber off, mount TPMS, remount the tire, reprogram the ECU, etc... expensive stuff :o(

so the TPMS light will stay on, what about the VSA? Since I can't turn it off, which I don't mind, I assume the light will be off. VSA light off means it's on and VSA light on means it's off.

That is correct, the VSA light will be off; it's only on when it is disabled.

If your tire place cannot reprogram your comp via ecu do not waste your money going to the stealership. get the sensor codes for each tire then buy the ateq tpms quickset and change codes yourself.

I just put on new Honda 18" HFP rims I purchased at College Hills Honda and they came with the Honda OEM TPMS sensors and the following instructions http://www.collegehillshonda.com/ins...n/18wheels.pdf (warning 600k download).
I went to the local tire center who is very professional and they've been in business for ~ 40 years. They set the TPMS sensors and told me there are two ways to do it. The easier way is to set the computer to detect the new sensors and the more involved way which involves bumping the tire pressure incrementally. They took the easy route and now about 300 miles later my TPMS sensor light (2009 EX-L V6) comes on today so I have to go back. So my question is if I get the ATEQ TPMS Quickset I wonder how it differs from their method of detecting the sensor? Unfortuntely I don't know the exact procedure they used but they said it was some type of standard TMPS setup steps they used as dictated by one of the tire manufacturers. I can't imagine the procedure for using this new tool is that much different from theirs. Do the sensors need to be initialized in some way? It doesn't sound like anyone here who used the Quickset tool is having a problem and once they get the numbers programmed they are good to go. If I look at the Honda instructions it sounds more involved but I'm wondering how this tool skips those steps? Tom |
