2008 Accord coupe V6-6 speed or 2008 TL Type-S 6-Speed?
Alright so I have done a lot of comparisons in the past, but this one is really close.
I have my 2008 Accord coupe V6-6speed with 19500 miles on it. There is a 2008 Acura TL-Type S used with 19000 miles on it as well. What car would you take? The specs are relatively close. The Accord is a little faster, but the TL gives you the benefit of a sedan. The gadgets seems to be almost the same, the TL seems to be a little dated on the Nav/Audio unit. the TL is also $30 a month less on insurance. I don't think I'm really going to pursue this, but thought that comparing these 2 cars would be interesting.

if I were to do it all over again... I'd get a TL type s. Not saying that I'm unhappy with the Accord at all, just should've stuck with my gut decision.

TL, and to have a sedan with a manual. I love my accord but I also like the TLs. I should have waited and got a used TL as I did not want to spend more then 30k on a car.

I had the same dilemma. For me it came ot price. I got my brand new 6-6 for about 7K less than I couldve gotten a 07/08 TL Type S with black interior 6MT with no lmore than 40K on the odo. I love the TL though. But I also REALLY wanted a coupe.

I sold my 08 Accord back to Honda (Lemon Law) and bought a nicely used 08 TL Type S 6 speed. No comparison - the TL wins hands down. No rattles, vibrations, flickering headlights, defective brakes, etc.
Downside- a little smaller inside, wicked torque steer, stiff ride. The TL is a blast to drive. |

It's not really a fair comparison, is it? I mean, of course everyone would love a TL-S over an Accord.
I looked at this option too, in the 2009 TL-S, but the redesign of the TL didn't have a standard transmission. And it was nearly $10k more than the Accord. And honestly I didn't like the new body style. But you're asking about 2008... I believe the most (if not all) Acuras require premium unleaded do to their higher compression. So, if you fill up 4 or 5 times a month, then there's your $30 savings for insurance gone straight to Exxon/Mobile. The TL has the older body style, where we got a brand new redesign. Of course Accord new model has new problems (squeaks, brakes), and the TL would probably be really solid since it was a mature design and all the kinks were probably worked out. Both will have great resale values, and probably very high reliability. I looked at some 07/08 TL-S, but I guess I wanted something brand new. And I really like the coupe option, since I don't have kids to haul around. But your comparison was 08 Accord with 19K or 08 TL-S with 19K on it. Given that specific comparison, I'd be a fool not to take the TL-S!

3rd Gen TL-S had rear suspension clunks that Acura/Honda couldnt get figured out for a while. But they finally fixed it, as Honda will do with the issues the 8th gens are having.

Certainly the TL is trimmed out more nicely than the Accord, but it also has a reputation for torque steer that's just off the charts - way too much power being forced through the front wheels, and considering how big and heavy the car is, I honestly don't know why Honda didn't make it rear-wheel. Now if we were talking the 2010 TL with the stick, I'd be all over the Acura, but for 2008, the Honda wins.
Also as others have noted, the Acuras also require premium fuel, which the Accord does not.

Since I have owned both a Gen 8 Accord and an 08 TL. I think I have some basis for comparison. I like the TL better than the Accord and, yes, the TL is an older generation design. For the same money, I think you will be happier and have less issues with the TL. |

Comparing the TL-S vs the AV6-6 is like comparing an Olympic athlete with a Special Olympic's athlete, obviously the Olympic athlete will win in every race, match or what have you. I mean, yes, the block is similar and the inner workings are similar, very similar at that, BUT, the suspension work, brakes and most everything else is much improved on the TL-S.
This is a wasteful comparison.

I was all about the 08 Infinti G37 Journey before getting the Honda. I did not want to spend over $30k and they wanted $35K for an 08 wth 12K. So I decided to buy the honda w/o nav to have a decent trade for an Infiniti should I decide to try again in a few years. 330 HP RWD what a ride that guy is....
