My buddy helped me de-badge my car last week at the dealer he works at last week so we could buff the paint easily. After we got the badges off we noticed that the rear bumper had apparently been repainted and the badge was masked off and not taken off then out back on. This causes a problem because the paint that is around the area where the badge was is raised more so than the paint under the badge so we could only buff it to a certain point before the clear coat would start to be chipped. this leaves kind of an unsightly outline of where the badge used to be when the light hits it right. I realize pics would help but it's dark now so I'll try to take some tomorrow but if you're planning to de-badge check around the badge to see if it's been painted w/out removing the badge because otherwise the only way to get it 100% clean would be to repaint the bumper.

That is the sign of bad body shop. A quality shop would remove the badge, overhaul the cover, repaint and clear coat, then re-badge to return the bumper to pre-accident condition. Cheap shops will do it the way you described.

Wow, that sucks! Was there anything on the CARFAX about a wreck when you bought it? Don't they have some kind of guarantee or something?

Yeah my buddy said he always takes the badges off and does as you describe. No accident history on it so I'm not sure why they would have repainted the bumper :dunno:

we still have the old badges so will probably just end up putting those back on :thumbsdow

Maybe paint the old badges so taking them off wasnt a waste, going black is always nice

Kind of sucks but I'm actually looking forward to painting them a gloss black as per thisismyusrnm's suggestion. Will be sure to post pics once that's done I'm thinking it'll be fully done sometime next week

whatever happened to the pix?
