MPG with 2006 Accord V6?

I have not bought one yet! My wife test drove a Jetta TDI and an 2006 Accord. I was really interested in a Jetta Diesel but after hanging out at the VW TDI forum I found out that there are many problems that occur with the new Jettas(electrical,hardware,etc). The Jetta TDI's do get great mileage though. So, here I am at the Accord forum to determine if this is the car for us! I know that this accord is listed at 21 city and 29 highway but I want to know what real accord drivers actually get.

I have an 03 v6 with ~45k miles. about 75% of my driving is highway and I get between 24-26 mpg. I used to get closer to 26, but i've been a little heavy on the gas lately. When I drove to San Antonio, I think I got about 29 mpg. Good luck with your decision. I have heard VW has been having some reliability issues lately tho.

There's lots of threads around with gas mileages. Here are a few. Good luck on your decision, don't rush it...making a $30,000 mistake sucks!

Note that you will have to sift through some of these threads to find the ones specifically mentioning gas mileage in a V6. Shouldn't be too hard. Also, I remember one person got 37-40MPG on a long trip in their EX V6 auto...don't think I can find that thread.

Tip: read signatures or usernames for clues on whether it is a V6 or I4 they're talking about!

Why a V6 Accord if mileage is the question? You should drive a 2.4L four as well. You Will be impressed! I average almost 33Mpg with my 2.4L 5-speed manual on mostly freeway driving. My mileage is going up now to the 34-36+Mpg range as I have slowed down from cruising at 75Mph to 65-69Mph.

The 5-20 oil also has shown in my car to make a difference in FE to the tune of 1-1.5Mpg!

MPG is discussed here all the time.... some good some bad.... :dunno: As Benji said, look around. Our road trips in our V6 AT is usually just above 30.... we've had 34 & as low as 29 with a head wind.

The highway mpg for the 4's & the 6's aren't much different depending mostly on the driver's style. It's the city driving that's WAY different!!

as mentioned above, try driving the 4-cyl model instead of the v6; the i4 may have enough power for you. i think that the 4cyl 0-60 time is in the mid 7s range.

anyone, please correct me if i'm wrong.....

Hello,

IMO, if you are concerned about fuel economy, you need to stick with a 4 cylinder Accord. We bought a 2005 EX-L 4 cylinder in August and we are very pleased with it.

It is my wife's car. She used to have a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer EXT with an I-6. Horrible gas mileage (~13 to 14 in town, no better than 19 hwy), horrible power (as in NONE) and it was very noisy.


The Honda has more power, about twice the fuel mileage and is QUIET.


I was very, very impressed with the 4 cylinder. I think she is getting 24-25 in town and 33+ highway driving.


I bought a 1995 EX 4 cylinder 5 speed two months ago, 133k miles on it and got 33 mpg on mostly highway bringing it back home on the 130 mile trip. Dirty oil, air filter and what looked like the original plugs. All three got replaced within an hour of being home.

I am getting 24 mpg in town (we climb a decent hill for 3/4 of a mile or more atleast once a day), and over 33 on the highway.

And I parked my 2000 Chevy Silverado extended cab with a 285 HP 5300 V8 that will scream.

Well since I got my V6 coupe in August, I've recorded an average of 26 mpg with 75% of my driving on the highway. I do have very large feet tho, so I can truly believe that 30 mpg is possible on the freeway when driving with restraint ;)

We got 32.2 on the way home from Disneyland yesterday. Not too bad. The Santa Ana's were blowing enough to give warnings on the news.... they expected them at 60mph. I don't think we saw any like that. Going down on Sunday we got 34.1 on one tank & refilled before the grapevine as usual. The one that had some traffic was 29.9..... there wasn't much sitting though.

Don't know exactly what we're getting with our V-6, but it improved significantly once we put about 5,000 miles on the engine.

I4 MT is mid-7's AT is mid-low 8's
V6 MT gets mid 6's AT gets low 7's

Just look at what kind of driving you're going to be doing. If you're going to be driving with more than 1 passenger in the car, driving with a lot of stuff in the car all the time, or driving on the highway all the time (80% or more), then consider the V6. Otherwise, the I4 should be sufficient.

For your reference, I got 34mpg on a round trip to NYC (450 miles or so) after I properly broke in the engine. I went before when the engine isn't fully broken in and I got 29mpg. In normal city driving, I get 19mpg if I'm a little heavy on the throttle and 22mpg if I'm a little more light-footed.

Same here... After the first oil change, the engine smoothed out greatly. Just don't decide to change the oil too early. (that's a whole new discussion and there's a separate thread on that)..

Comparing a VW turbo diesel to a V-6 Accord is like comparing an acorn to an amoeba. There is no comparison.

I agree with others here that you should drive the 4cyl. Accord. I intentionaly bought the 4 cyl. for mileage and have achieved 37.9 MPG on the highway. In town mileage is generally in the upper 20's with a 5 speed stick.

Very little difference with the auto transmission if you prefer it.

I think we made our first oil change at 3,000 miles, then again at 6K. We generally change every 3K. Almost time for a tire rotation.
