5-Speed Car Wont Move

I have a 5-speed manual transmission 1996 Accord and just today it drove fine for about 1 minute, and now it will shift into any gear but once the clutch is disengaged the car wont move.

I did notice the speedo increases when the clutch is disengaged even though the car isnt moving.

Any ideas if this might be a clutch problem or if this is more likely a drive problem? Broken CV Shaft? Or any other ideas. THANKS

While in gear if I give it gas the speedo increases. Would this happen if this was a clutch problem? Or is this most likely a stripped CV Shaft?

I it was cv stripped, it would make a loud "zipper" sound. My S2000's rear cv went out. woud not move put press gas in gear and it sounded like a loud zipper.

Its not the clutch, or the speedo wouldn't go up.

Check the left one first. I hope it's a reasonable repair.

Either an axle isn't engaged to the diff, broken or the diff exploded. All that's turning is the final drive.

Probably an axle though.

The diff issue is very common in snowy areas. People who get stuck spin the crap out of one wheel until the spider gears blow to pieces.

Older Chrysler FWD cars used to spit the gears through the case. VWs up to mid 90s (5 spd manual) would shear the pin holding the spider pinion shaft, and it would slide out and break the trans case or machine the case until all the fluid leaked out.
