VTEC v/s NON-VTEC ENGINE

What is the difference between a VTEC and a non-VTEC 4 cylinder engine on a 1999 Honda Accord LX trim? Thanks for all your comments.

Yeah, that. Also, the non-VTEC (only the DX/VP trims had it) had 15 less hp.

This is why you WANT V-TEC and shouldn't be thinking about non-VTEC at all:

yeah I must say when it kicks in at 3500 rpm its a real eye opener. it can get you out of a bad situation or put you in a bad situation real quick.

I heard of v-tec for years and thought it was just a gimmic and not real practical like ford with there triton and dodge with their magnum engines. well I ate my crow after buying my accord.

You get that added power with no reduction in mpg is the good reason for it too. May I ask why you are asking? Did you come up on a deal for a DX/VP?

omg, that's so hilarious! LOL

to OP, aside from the extra power gains after 3500 RPM, there's nothing else to it.

just don't keep it above 3500 RPM when cruising on the highway or your MPGs will drop big-time, lol.

Sometime, when you have the valve cover removed, you will SEE the VTEC system hardware on the rocker shaft. You could also visit your dealer to watch a technician work on a VTEC-equipped vehicle.

Unhappy

Well, I think I'm the only one who disagrees about the vtec hype. To me, it wasn't a major detail when I bought mine. Besides, since 2008, when I acquired the car, I've never been above 3000rpm. So, in my case, it's just another thing that may break in the future.

Peace.
