Car shakes/vibrates when stopped with engine idling in drive.

Hey folks, my Accord 09 4 door sedan 2.4L is shaking when the car is is drive.

I had a flash back that I was still driving my old 92 Accord because it had this problem as well.

Anyways, coming home today from work in the rain, I took lots of side streets instead of my usual freeway drive home. 25 miles.

I noticed the engine shakes when the car is in drive and stopped. If I put the car in neutral, the shaking goes away.

If I turn the a/c unit on, the shaking increases.

The rpm indicator does not fluctuate.

Any ideas?

I get the same sort of feeling in my car (v6), Can't really give you a good explanation, but the AC makes its shake more because the AC is putting more stress to the engine.

Sounds like it could be an engine mount. I would stop by the dealer and just show them so they can take a look. Worst case scenario they don't see anything and you just drive home.

Let us know how it goes.

How long have you had the vehicle ?

I am going to guess its probably normal if you had head lights , windshield wipers and defroster on(the defroster puts A/C on) .

With all these running the idle is probably little low and you feel the natural 4 cylinder transverse engine mounting movements .
If it still does feel different with acc off then bring it in for a check up, it could be bad mount .

Let the dealer worry about it if still under warranty.

Maybe a belt issue? I haven't studied the mechanics of the newer engine design, but I assume that the A/C still runs off of a belt, which could explain the increased vibrations when its on.
