Strange noise on startup

My lxp sedan with the 4 cyl 177hp motor makes a strange loud noise when I start the car. It doesn't happen all the time only when the car has been sitting for a long time. Any ideas what it could be?

it's like a rattling noise coming from the front of the engine that lasts about 2 seconds.

oooooooooh i know what you are talking about.... I have that happen everytime I start the car from a parking spot, go reverse, then turn the wheels to leave, *POP* ..... no idea what that is...thought it had to do with the steering column.

My car had the same issue, there is a service bulletin out for it. Mine sounded almost like a grinding noise, it only happened every few starts and lasted for a second or two. Some part for the starter, cant remember what it was called. Take it to the dealer, they should fix it for free.

Thanks for the input, pimp!!

How can we find the service bulletin for it? I logged onto ownerslink for my car and it says there are no service bulletins or recalls at this moment?? useless, huh!
