Oil change interval
I would like to ask how soon one has to do the first oil change for a new vehicle? I have looked at the manual and it specifically recommends to not do the first oil change until 15% of oil life remains. I have already had 62oo miles and the oil life is still at 40% due to mostly highway driving.

Just wait till your car tells you too :P
It tells you by showing a double sided wrench on your dash board

It'll be fine. Keep driving until it tells you to at 15%. A wrench will lit up on the dashboard.

Do like I did and wait for the wrench. If it makes you nervous then change it early. Either way you are fine.

Just did my first oil change. I had 9,200 highway miles and the oil life was still at 30%. I couldn't wait any longer. Peace of mind thing...

You should wait till the wrench comes on, Honda has extra stuff in the oil for the break-in period, and oh yeah use the search button there are tons of threads in regards of changing oil and what not.

Some owners have oil consumption problems if they change the break-in oil before they are supposed to.

You will get different opinions. I would change it. Take a look that what will be flowing out of your drain plug, if you are doing your own change. The indicator is only an estimate, and not an actual indication on the condition of the oil. You have to ask, why is it there? IMO, there are more drivers that "forget" to change their oil than those who follow a routine schedule.
Your car your money.

Keep it in until you get the wrench indicator on your instrument cluster. Couple of reasons:
1. Honda puts additional lubricant on the parts of the engine at the factory which is intended to help all the parts seat properly. It is intended to stay in your engine until the maintenance minder advises it's time for an oil change. Your owners manual advises it. Doing so earlier can possibly lead to oil burning problems down the road. 2. The sensors Honda uses actually sample oil viscosity, percentage of contaminants (or remainder percentage of uncontaminated oil), and compares this to the #of hours your engine runs, RPMs, idle time, temperature variances, etc..... the MM calculates all of this to produce your recomended oil change interval. Which is why some cars have it at 6000 miles and some go to 10,000.

Often overlooked is what oil the dealer is using. I'd be nervous about using cheap bulk oil that the dealer often sources. Either diy or bring the dealer some Mobil Clean 5000 or MotorCraft syn-blend.
When these cars start to get up there mileage wise and start having powertrain issues one of the first questions Fredsvt often asks is what oil has been used for oil changes.
