No Reverse Lights

What's up guys, here's my first problem to bring to the forum.

2004 Accord EX 4cyl, 5 speed manual trans. 105k miles.

I bought the car on Wednesday.

Tonight I noticed that my reverse lights are not working. I'm not sure if they were yesterday or the day before as it's hard to tell if they're working when you're in the driver's seat and it's light outside. The tail lights and brake lights work.

I have checked the #7 fuse in the interior fuse panel, the #7 fuse in the under-hood fuse panel, along with the #15 relay that is labeled 'Back Up'. I also checked the bulbs and put a multimeter on the bulb connector in the trunk lid. No power.

That leaves one thing - The reverse switch for the transmission. I do not know where this switch is. I pulled a sensor out of the transmission tonight thinking it was the reverse switch, but it smelled like gear oil and didn't have any sort of switch mechanism to it. I think it was a temperature sensor. It was on the transmission below the back of the battery on the side towards the front of the car. There was only one other switch I could see on the trans, and that one was on top of the trans near where it mates with the engine. I am pretty sure that would be the clutch switch that allows the engine to be started only when the clutch is pushed in.

If someone could please tell me where the reverse switch is or give me something else to check I'd really appreciate it.

Is there not a safety inspection done on this car as part of your purchase? If so then go back to the seller and ask this to be fixed at his/her cost.

I found the reverse switch on the trans and it was bad. I jumped the pigtail that plugs into it and the reverse lights came on.

Ordering a new switch Monday.

Awesome. Could you take a pic and show where that switch is on the tranny? To help out the next guy?

Here's the diagram. This is looking from the front of the hood backwards, with the engine on the left of the trans, and the drivers tire to the right. It is part #5 which is circled.

It is Honda part # 28700-PWL-013 and was $22.80 with tax.

While shopping around, I found it is Carquest part # 53-11748 and is $20.48 plus tax; Napa part # NS 16645.

It takes a 1 and 1/16" socket(27mm) and a few extensions and bendable joints to snake it around the ducting above it. You might could do it with a 27mm wrench, but there is not much room to move down there.

I believe the 06 has integrated LED turn, tail, and brake lights, so the only other socket would be for the reverse lights.
