Question Drone Drone and Drone...

Do any of you who has a Magnaflow CBE (or any other aftermarket exhaust set up on 8G Accord) exprienced the "drone" in different cars?

What I mean is, there is quite a bit of "drone" or "din" from the Magnaflow CBE. I don't mind it too much but it can get annoying sometimes when I have my radio off.

When you hear the Magnaflow CBE from outside, it's acually not very loud. I would say it is quieter than 350z/G35.

Then you hear all these riced out civics or TC's out there with the fart cans that can wake up a whole neighborhood.

If any of you ever rode in those LOUD fart canned cars, how was the noise level inside? I'm thinking it must be crazy loud inside?

When I was younger I rode in cars like that and it is loud, annoying, and sounds just as crappy inside as it does outside.

And on my S10 I had an exhaust cutout in front of the muffler. Pull off a plate and the exhaust would bypass the muffler. That was extremely loud (4.3L V6). It was as about as loud inside the truck as it is on a v-twin cruiser with straight pipes.

The reason I ask this question is, even though it's louder outside it's quieter inside for 350z/G35. I know infinity has better insulation so that probably is the reason for the quieter interior with louder exhaust. Just wondering how those people with fart cans drive around without getting headaches.

Just called a muffler shop in town and explained I wanted to reduce the drone. The guy said Magnaflow resonators usually don't do much and so he will have to replace it with something bigger/longer. He did say it will also reduce the outside sound level. $65 installed so I might check it out later this week.

Yes i know what your talking about.. Sometimes the Drone level in my car can/does get to me but the quality of the sounds is what leave the exhaust on the car.

Why don't you look into the J-pipes we have to offer, they reduce Drone level by a lot but of course the outside sounds level increase.

That's one the biggest reasons i am getting the J-pipe for my car to really reduce the DRONE in the cabin.

I have a friend who had a B20B swapped EG with a full catless exhaust and race headers. Now that was LOUD. Loud as hell on the outside, 10 times louder on the inside. It would give me headaches when we'd drive long distances with it. I think your best bet to reduce that drone is to add a good amount of sound deadening to the floor of the car. Dynamat alone will not help all of it, if I'm correct. You'd have to add another layer of closed cell foam or something equivalent to that on top of the Dynamat.

What about the Car Chemistry inserts that Gentledental4u recently installed? He seems to be happy with them. Here's a link if you're interested. http://www.carchemistry.com/shop/ind...ct_detail&p=11

Getting the J pipe is something I am considering. However, I'm not sure if it is legal in california? Also, I can't keep spending my money on my car...gotta save up for my Audi S5.

Yeah unfortunately the J pipe is illegal in Cali (hence why it's deemed suitable for "off-road" use only) since it removes the first cat right? Idk I'm an I4 owner so idk where you guys have your cats at. Either way, removing any cat from your exhaust is illegal in Cali. Don't matter if you still have 10 other cats on your exhaust after that one.

Removing any cat is illegal in all 50 states due to federal law. It's also illegal to replace a functioning cat with a high flow one. Basically all you can do per the law is replace a broken cat with a high flow one if you want. No one really cares as long as they see the cat, there's no codes thrown, and it passes the sniffer test if there is one.
