Hey Sylv - do you still have your "loud" exhaust? How's the "drone" inside? I can't even imagine what it would be like if I had a louder exhaust. The Magnaflow sux in a way because it seems the drone inside is louder than the exhaust sound outside.

I like M3 also but they look too close to regular 3 series, which are everywhere. I want something that's not so common.

Well I only had 2 Exhausts (both of which were loud); the single exit (N1 style fart can) and True Dual XPipe

The Single Exit droned a lot (But not too much to annoy me; but it would annoy others)
The True Dual X Pipe didn't drone at all, it had no mufflers/resonators and when i put down the gas pedal, i only heard the short ram, but then again; the short ram was definitely loud too rofl

Even when i was working on the true dual (This was modifying the J Pipe so the exhaust shop would work on the car) it didn't drone; it was just INSANELY LOUD

Thats actually True Dual ending where the 3rd cat would have been (if you listen closely; you can hear me decelerating @ 0:20 ... i don't know why i thought the camera wouldn't pick up the sound rofl) That exhaust was so loud; i couldn't hear myself think and almost every panel was rattling

next, why not get the ATLP J Pipe w/o the test pipe? It keeps the cat in place and is legal

I am STRONGLY considering it. However, here's why I haven't pulled the trigger YET:

1) Getting just the ATLP J pipe without the race/test pipe gives you only a minimal gain (less than 10 hp/tq I believe).

2) The cost ($430 shipped new or around $300 used) is hard to justify for such a small gain.

3) It does have the added bonus of reducing the drone but I can accomplish that with $50 by just adding a larger resonator in place of the magnaflow resonator.

So I'm still debating which way I should go. Spending $4-500 for gaining a few ponies that you won't really feel is hard to swallow.

Why don't you look into the J-pipes we have to offer, they reduce Drone level by a lot but of course the outside sounds level increase.

That's one the biggest reasons i am getting the J-pipe for my car to really reduce the DRONE in the cabin.

Exactly what I was gonna say do. Over on Acurazine board the TL guys have the same prob add J-pipe. Not only do you get big gains but you Gain a lot of HP.

I think adding J pipe alone (don't want to mess with cats for emissions reasons here in Cali) only gives you something like 8-9 HP? Nothing you're going to feel day to day I think.

And that gain is manufacture's claimed gain. Just like Magnaflow CBE (which proved to have NO gains), it's hard to know exactly what is the gain.

Get a Fat resonator. I just bought one that is 33in in lenght and 27 in of it is the resonator. That should shut everything up/

10whp/wtq gain from Chris at the other forum with his ALTP J pipe and test pipe installed is REAL gains from someone independent of the manufacturer.


But you are right with the cat still in place its really probably only going to provide 7-8whp and that would be hardly noticeable, to say you're car will feel like a different animal after installing is not going to happen. If you're major concern is drone, I would put a longer resonator in the catback section.

Well, Magnaflow is worth it because I love the look and most of the sound minus the drone. I don't mind the drone most of the time, especially when I can drive with windows down. Love the sound overall. It's just that sometimes when you have passengers and on a longer trips the drone can be bothersome.

I'll probably end up adding a larger resonator so I can reduce the drone some and still keep most of the throaty exhaust note.
