Post 89 Accord LXi shifting problems

New to the forum and I need some serious help. My sons 89 Accord LXi is shifting funny. When it's cold it's shifts fine then as it warms up the gears all start slipping until it doesn't go into any gear! He can turn the car off and then back on and he has all gears for a little bit until the issue starts all over again. I've been told it's the TV cables...low fluid or a clogged screen....and "you need a new tranny"! The ecu blinks 12 times=EGR. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this car?!! It was a little low on fluid, I mean just a small amount. Is that enough to make it act this way? Can the EGR code make the transmission shift like this?? Any HELP would be greatly appreciated, just kinda need to know where to start!

Thank you!!!
