Phillips HIR2 9012 Bulbs on Amazon

I was looking around and amazon has this light bulb for 27.65/bulb with free shipping. Before you start jumping up and down, they are temporarily out of stock. They wont charge your card until it ships, but thought I'd share. I plan to order them, much cheaper than candlepower.

By the way, the 9012 is a replacement for the 9006 (low beams).

You get what you pay for in this world. HID kits:

- are illegal
- put too much light in the wrong place ultimately destroying long distance night vision
- present a lot of glare to oncoming drivers
- can give radio frequency interference
- may not last long
- generally have poor quality control

Assuming you're meaning retrofitted OEM HID projectors, yes. Halogen projectors, like the ones on Accords, are not suitable for HID kits. And even retrofits are not going to illuminate the road any greater distance than halogen - they will be wider though. OEM HID in neither my 911 nor G37X illuminate further down the road than my Accord reflectors.

I'm not sure what you're asking. If you are asking why the Accord projectors are not suitable for HID kits then the answer is simple. HID burners produce light differently from halogen capsules and headlight optics (lens, reflectors, projector bowls) are designed for one light source or the other. There is no headlight in existence that can accommodate both light sources safely. The Accord projectors were designed for halogen capsules and halogen capsules only.

If you put a HID kit in a halogen projector you'll get the same cut-off as you would with a halogen capsule. But judging a headlight by its cut-off is like judging a book by its cover - not a good idea. It's the distribution of light under the cut-off that's important and this is drastically altered by using a HID kit in place of a halogen capsule.

anyone have any pictures of these installed? I put a ddm kit in my Gf's car and they're hot spots and that moonshaped hotpost from the reflector...

I'm pretty sure these would be pretty bright and provide a nice solid cutoff,, like the way it used to be with the stock bulbs..

That is very nice color temp (I know camera's don't show a true reflection of it, but it looks close) and as close to a HID 'look' as I've ever seen -- puts all those Silverstars and imitators of tinted halogen glass bulbs to shame.

Looks like a massive upgrade over the stock halogens in sedans... this would be a must do mod for me if I had the sedan and didn't go for a retro install of projectors.

Thanks for posting Mack!

Not a problem at all.

I actually shot these @ 3400K with the 7D in aperture priority on a tripod, but they did come out a bit "hotter" than reality. Truth be told the color temperature means nothing to me anymore, it's all about the amount of usable light on the ground in front of the car. I'm not getting any younger and NEED the light for nighttime driving. Gives a definite boost in after dark driving confidence. Well worth the money, even for approx ~ $75/pr shipped from Candle Power.

thats because oem headlights are aimed ridiculously low to prevent blinding peolpe even when you go over bumps. oem headlights are like 2% or more downwards.

That's incorrect. Where on earth did your misinformation come from? My headlights are properly aimed, and were properly aimed when I took delivery of the cars, and the G37 has auto leveling. And if it were true that OEM headlights are aimed low, that would apply to the Accord too.
