1998 Accord EX V6 Serpentine Belt Tensioner...HELP !

Hello All!

I have a 1998 Accord EX V6 Coupe and I am trying to replace the tensioner pulley for the serpentine belt. I know I have to remove the entire tensioner assembly in order to replace the pulley because the bolt is too long to come out with the whole thing still installed. I have searched everywhere and found a diagram that shows there are 3 10mm bolts that need to be removed....I can only find 2. It looks like the third is located in the center of the tensioner but that is not a 10mm bolt it is an 8mm bolt and looks like it is used to get inside the tensioner where the preloaded spring is....so I am apprehensive about removing that one to see if it is the bolt still holding it on the motor....HELP!

98 Accord Tensioner

Ok....I answered my own question so for those of you that need help with this here is what I discovered.

The diagram that is available onlne at 2carpros.com is INCORRECT! It shows the tensioner being attched to the motor with 3 10mm bolts....it is actually 2 10mm bolts and 1 8mm bolt located diectly in the center of the tensioner assembly. Once I decided to risk loosening that 8mm center bolt (thinking that possibly the tensioner assembly would come apart and uncoil the spring) I saw the tensioner spin loose on the block....knowing that was infact the hold down bolt not a bolt holding the spring assembly together. Once I figured that out got it finished in about 30 minutes.

Hi Zrob1, I am going to try and tackle the belt tensioner. I know this is an old post but was wondering how hard it was to change out the pulley. I changed my drive belt today after the old one came off. I replaced the new belt and the the belt started melting because the pulley would not spin with the belt. Any tips on how to replace the pulley? The area is really tight.
