Fog lamp difference US / Canada

Hello All,

I talked with the guys from College Hills Honda today about ordering some Fog lights for my 2011 Coupe EX. Now what the guy said was that unless I am sure that the US fog lamp kit will work with a Canadian version I should purchase the parts here in Canada.

So I am asking has anyone in Canada had any issues with the wiring harness that would indicate to myself that I should purchase from a Canadian Dealer? I know after talking with the service department at Honda that the CDN EX model wiring harness is designed to be P&P for the fog lights.

Also while I am asking about this issue, I guess I should ask if the Ambient light kit would be different between the two countries as that was the other product I was going to order from them.

The reason I am asking this is because of the MASSIVE price difference between the two countries. With the CDN $ being higher then the US there is already a savings, below are the prices for those who want to know:

2011 Fog Lamp Kit

US - $280.00 (After CHH Discount $208.80)
CDN - $484.58 + 10% Tax (After Asking for Dealer Discount $469.99)

Ambient Light Kit

US - $84.42
CDN - $227.94 + 10% Tax

Now you can see what a joke it would be to buy from the Dealership here in Canada, and why I am really hoping I can confirm that I won't have an issue with the fog lamps / ambient kit out of the US.

HUGE Thanks, from both myself and my wallet!

It's not just the fog light harness that is included. They also send a new turn signal assembly that gets attached to your steering wheel.

If no one on here chimes in, perhaps you could ask CHH to take a few pictures of the wiring harness, and, you could try and compare those to what are on your car, then, go from there.

Looking through the service manuals doesn't show much difference. Can't say for sure but the fog light accessory looks to be the same. The factory fogs with auto-off lights apparently have an extra connector on the Canadian models. Strangely in one manual it shows sub-harnesses for Canadian models only. Worst case is that you would need to splice some wires.

As far as the ambient lights everything shows the same for you. It wouldn't work with Latin America or Argentina models since they they don't come with VSA.

EX models already have the light harness for the fog lights wired. You just have to get an OEM fog light switch to turn them on.

as for the actual fog lights, you can get aftermarket ones, they work just as good. For the switch, you should get the OEM one.

and yes, Canadian prices are ridiculous. You mind as well pay extra shipping, custom fees, and brokerage fees. It'll still be cheaper than buying from Canada.

Just to tell you how ridiculous the prices are:
12 V socket + audio jack = $60 CDN from dealership
same items, $15 USD from Magauto Honda. Shipping is $15...

Everything in the states is just cheaper.

Thanks for the information guys. I would really like to stay away from non-oem fog lamps and things of that nature, just who I am. and @ Takumi yours were plug and play, for both the lights and the switch in the dash? Or did you have to do any wire splicing?

I will keep you guys updated, and anyone else who has any other ideas would love to hear from you guys.

Thanks.

There is already lighting harness installed on EX model, you just need to get the switch and a set of fog lamp. I got my installed by dealer but I don't remember wat the exact cost was I believed was $100.

I found out the part # for the fog light assembly from my dealer here in Canada it is:

08v31-TE0-100A

I looked on College hills Honda website, and it is the EXACT same part code there. Now this would say to me it is the EXACT same part in both countries... Would you guys agree?

The I4 EX(L) Coupes come with the harnesses for fog lights already?! So all we need is the OEM switch+lights?

Yes the CDN model of the I4 EX comes equipped from the factory with the required wiring harness. So all we need is the lights and switch. College Hills Honda has it for $208.80 + Shipping & applicable customs taxes for us CDNs.

As I mentioned above the Part codes are identical in both countries, so I would assume that this means there would be no issues ordering from the US and installing here in Canada. Just wanna get some input that you guys would agree with that statement. If that is the case I will order them and have them here for when the car arrives.

Same part number, should be same parts. As Takumi said, for the 2008-2010 between Canada and USA, there's no difference.

If we think about it, it'll cost Honda too much money to redesign and change up parts during MMY changes. There are different looks here and there, but bolting wise (and wiring), things are practically the same universally on the 8th gen chassis. Some things may be omitted or added, but it's still pretty much the same regardless. This is the reason why you can swap the coupe's taillights between 2008-2010 and 2011, swap the bumpers between them (while replacing the grilles), etc.

Hey, thanks for the response. I am going to purchase them from down south then. In the off chance that they do not end up working with my CDN model I will offer them on here for $200 or something to someone down south who would like a pair.
