2011 V6 gas mileage
I recently bought a 2011 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L V6 which now has 1200 miles. Im a little concerned because the gas mileage is horrible in my opinion. My first two tanks I got about 19 mpg. On my last tank I took a 200 mile trip, The tank lasted me for 371 miles, which only averages 22 mpg. Am I being unreasonable. I was expecting about 23/24 mpg normally. Before this I had a 2006 Accord Coupe EX-L V6 which got about 24 mpg without any issues, same driving.
Im not understanding the problem here. Will it get better as I put more miles on it? Please post your 2011 V6 figures. Thanks |

5AT or 6MT? Either way it should get better as you put miles on it.

Your numbers will increase somewhat with break-in. But not to Gen7 levels. It may not apply here (don't know if you are auto or 6M), but recently I've been shifting at 2500 (vice 3500) RPM. Consequently my numbers have jumped up 10%. all the best, ez....

Yes, lowering shift points is one of the best things to do to help mileage. The J35 can easily handle shifts at 2000 RPM. I do this along with staying within 5 MPH of the speed limit and I regularly see 25-26 MPG.

Something you all left out is tire pressure. If you only put in the recommened 30 or 33 psi you'll get lousy mpg. Pump it up to the 40s & it can increase your MPGs by 20% or more. Also, the dealer told me Hondas don't get their best mileage until 10k or 15k. Drive like there's an egg between your foot & gas pedal & you'll see results.

Increasing the tire pressure to the 40 psi range is not good for your tires. Even if the max pressure rating on the tires is that high, given the cars weight (and weight distribution) as well as other factors, running them that high will contribute to premature tire wear. It's also not safe since the contact patch of the tire on the road is reduced. Going a couple pounds over the recommended psi is ok, but no more.

I get about 23.5 per gallon. Mostly freeway driving 70% (80mph average) and 30% city driving, A/C on 95% of the time for some comparison.

Your MPG will slightly get better later on but don't expect drastic gains. I average 21-22 mpg with roughtly 50/50 driving. I have auto and I let it shift under 2.5K RPM usually unless I'm entering highway or something.
It is what it is. If I wanted best MPG, I would've gone with I4 or other cars. I got v6 because I wanted the power and smoothness. So, my MPG doesn't really bother me since it's within manufacturer's esimates (and we all know those figures are under the ideal condition).

If you got an i4, you would've been making the same post heh .. "OMG my i4 gets 20mpg! If I wanted that mileage I would've got a v6 and floored it all the time!"
