1) Positive battery terminal to Alternator
2) Ground to chassis
3) ground to engine block

It lessens strain on your alternator
Lessens huge voltage drops
Helps with dimming of the lighting of the car

It should be used before you upgrade a bettery or high output alternator cause it could actually solve problems with the symptoms listed above. And is a fairly cheap thing to do.

@sandman69
Thanks, but I'm trying to find the loations where the wire is bolted to the alternator so I can add a 0/1 gauge cable at that exact spot AND where the cable is located that's attached to the engine block that'll go to the chasis. I have an i4 so the layout can be similar to the v6 but some things are differet like egine and battery size so some wires could be placed differently maybe?

The guy in that thread used the same location of the wire to the alternator and kept the stock wire and added a second one, I believe to the same location.

Where to ground the cables shouldn't matter too much as long as it is a solid ground.
The second one he screwed onto the shock tower area, and the third he mounted near the transmission. Just sand the area to make sure it is metal

Here is another DIY I found, which is an i4 I believe.

I understand where they go but he doesn't show where the wire from the pos (+) of the battery ends up going a the alternator. Maybe I didn't look good enough but the picture shows only the engine and the wire attached to it. It doesn't show where the termina is actuall connected to the alternator.

I believe he says he uses the same terminal the oem wire goes to.

Here is a youtube DIY on a 2001, which should still work.

Basically it is (I think) :
- Battery positive to alternator positive
- Battery negative to chassis
- Alternator negative to chassis

The weakest link for 08 - 09 is the ground cable from the tranny to the body (under the battery tray).

Look at my pics and see for yourself.

I posted a grounding issue thread a while back about it.

I dont see any issues with the positive battery cable unless you are using a much larger battery and upgrading sound and or lights.

Then again the best electrical upgrade is making better ground return back to battery and alternator case.

I added an 8 gauge ground to the block/engine mount and alternator yesterday on my 7th gen and it took care of an idle drop issue I was having. So maybe you don't need massive wires to actually do some good on a stock car.

It smoothed out everything, electronics runs smoother, and doesn't have a shit ton of wires.
