first car = 1991 Accord LX
Just got a screamin deal on a 91 Accord (168K)for my soon to be 16 Y old son. The car is in great shape. IN the last 18 months it has had the following work: front struts, tires, ac system (rcvr drier, hoses, blower fan, etc), timing belt and exhaust system. Purchased from the original owner that I have know for about 6 years, for $500. . . THe only real issue is paint and wheels. I would like to make the car look more age appropriate but am limited in budget. Would like some ideas from the group on what I can do between now and Feb when he takes it over full time.
I want to keep the original 14" tires for now, they are practically new, but would like to add aluminum wheels and paint. His favorite color is Red, the car has a gray interior, with a badly faded charcoal exterior now. Thank you in advance for your ideas. . . |

I wouldn't do red since it won't match the door jambs, trunk and engine bay. Plus it will stick out with the coppers. Keep it charcoal and only paint the areas that need it which most likely is the roof.
Great car btw. Prob one of the best generations out there!

I would do the same and keep it in the original color. If you really prefer another color, red is probably not a good choice, not for a teenager anyways (it will attract insane attention from racers, thieves and cops obviously)... something less catchy like black or silver would be a better choice imo.
Oh yeah, '91 (4th gen Accord?) is definitely a great car. I sat in one of my family friends' '92 Accord sedan just a few years ago, while I was overseas. They bought the car new and could have easily purchased a loaded new Accord (and most other cars as well). But they've decided to keep it because it's still in great condition and just couldn't let it go. I had only spent a bit of time in that car, but besides the car being reliable (16 years with minimal repairs), the two words that came to mind to describe that car, as I was sitting in it, were "solid" and "tight". A very nice, nifty car indeed.

If he likes red you can paint it burgundy/wine red. I believe that was one of the colors it came in that year and it won't attract attention like red would.
