and on that... how realistic are the chances of dirt actually getting through the filter? I can't foresee a lot of dirt even reaching the filter really, and takeda claims that they have a pretty good little filter on that thing lol

The pre-filter is sold out - wonder if a new revision is coming.

Doom, don't even bother. The filter on the Takeda SRI is a HIGH QUALITY dry flow media filter that sits in the engine bay where you'll never have to worry about water or a boatload of dirt. I'd trust this filter to keep dirt out of my engine far more than any oiled media filter (i.e. K&N.) But hey, that's just my humble opinion....

Actually, I've got the same type of filter in my OE air box right now (AFE Pro Dry S 31-10204.) It's a drop in OEM size / style filter made of the same high quality media as the cone filter that comes with the Takeda SRI (although it's white, not blue filter media.) I'm very happy with the results of this thus far...

Again, I'm fairly certain the pre-filter that I have isn't required. I just feel safe that my investment is more protected. I know the filters are only $50 or so to replace, but an engine costs a bit more! I just feel comfortable with it on, I have no proof of anything, hehe.

I think the prefilter is worth it for the extra 25$ if you’re anal, which I know I am, but it is not necessary. When I pulled my stock air filter out to change it last year there were a few bugs stuck between the filter blades. The prefilter should prevent bugs or leaves getting jammed in between the filter blades. If you are planning on keeping your car for the long haul and want to maximize filtration for the air going into your engine with a SRI or CAI you may want to do this mod. Not sure if there is any conclusive evidence it would make a marginal difference in longevity for an engine but it couldn’t hurt and it’s cheap to do.

+1 I agree. I can see this as decreasing the amount of air coming in (nothing significant of course). I don't see it being that great. When i looked at my Takeda filter it looks to be a high quality filter as stated above.

So after searching the forums, I see that most here add this upgrade because of the increase in power but there is some debate as to whether this will increase gas mileage. Those of you who have this SRI, do you see any improvements in MPGs?

I drive my car horribly, so I can't say. But my wife has a SRI on her Sentra and she saw an improvement of 1 MPG. She always drives with a light foot, trying to stay under 2k rpm, etc.

Install was a breeze thanks to Hitman's DIY. Very minor differences on the '11 model.

A before and after video:

It's a lot more subtle than I expected, which is a good thing.

lol there is a 100 something page thread about this... and the general consensis, based on WAY too much theory and technical reasoning, is that SRIs in general should decrease MPG slightly, not increase it. I believe it's CIA that does that. (Again, search for that thread... it can't be that hard to find)

I haven't noticed that much of a power increase... but I absolutely LOVE the sound. Going to pass someone on a back road will never be the same

Subtle? Sure, it might be subtle revving in park or neutral, but under load it's friggin' loud.

Yeah, which I love... but I was half expecting one of those intakes that sounds like a bad exhaust half the time. When not under load, it's barely there.

Right. I meant that you hear it when you want to and it's not always incessantly present. Passing or rapid acceleration is fun

i have noticed a 1-2 mpg increase since installing it, but i believe it when people say they have decrease in mpg because they are probably stepping on the gas pedal hard to hear the sound...and that goes above 2000 rpm
