2011 Accord Trunk (What are these?)

I noticed that in 2011 the Accord got some new, what look like reflectors on the trunk, that were not present on the 2010 version. (See image below). What are they? Reflectors? Lights? Something else?

Can they be added to the 2010? Thanks for your help.

just reflectors and actually does not serve any real purpose. its a lame attempt by honda to make the car look more expensive from behind IMO.... if i were you I would pay a little more for the inspire trunk conversion http://goo.gl/vkkvr

i agree that they are a little on the tacky side as simple plastic reflectors but an inspire conversion (especially with LED tails) improves look and function dramatically. to OP, the japanese accords use the driver's side as a rear fog light but the passenger side is not illuminated. before the availability of LED tails people would modify the JDM parts to illuminate on both sides.

i need a camber kit.

They are NOT reflectors. Go look at the car at night. They do not reflect light, like "real" DOT reflectors. They are really just smooth red plastic.

We can call Honda cheap. But really they can't be reflectors because it is in direct view of the headlights and will confuse drivers brake lights. So they are just "dead" plastic.

It would be nice if they are DOT light plastic (even if they don't light up) like the Honda Inspire. At least it looks like it belongs on the rear of a car.

+1

Save your money and live with what you have.

IMHO, it was a cheap quick add on to make Honda look like they had changed the look.

Didn't these start with the '09s or '10s? Regardless, I like the cleaner '08 look instead. If I were to get one of those today, I'd scrap out a trunk lid for an '08 one as soon as I could.

No, they started in 2011. We have a 2010 that doesn't have them and the wife was asking what they were. Thanks to everyone here, now I know.

I don't mind them being "dead" lights. But IMO, that plastic Honda used just looks cheap. Honda could have just used the Inspire parts, again even if they are not rear fogs, and call it done. It would look like it belongs on the back of a $30,000 car.

Maybe some aftermarket company will make some LED lights to fit where the plastic fake lights are, without having to change the trunk lid.

Those reflectors on 2011 Accord (North American model) are actually lights on Thailand model along with Japanese model since day one when the car came out. They do look good.

The space where the license plate hangs is smaller in US models and thus the reflectors are longer in US models.
So it is not a simple switch with inspire model!
