Water Pump DIY for 4 Cyl?

Does anyone know of a DIY for the water pump replacement on a 4cylinder Accord- mine's an '04. I'm planning to do the serp. belt and PS pump and thought I'd see how much of a pain the water pump is.

Thanks.

No, it's functioning fine, I just figured I'd see how much of a pain it is. I have to replace the Steering pump, serpentine belt, and belt tensioner and I wouldn't want to remove all that stuff and put it back to find out that I have to take it all off again if the water pump craps out in 10,000 miles.

More than likely, I'll see what's involved, it'll either be really easy or really hard and I won't do it anyway because it's working just fine!

I believe its driven by the timing chain, so its much more involved than you are doing for the surpetine belt change, but Im not as familiar with your 7th gen as my 6th gen.

No it is not.. The water pump is driven by the surpetine belt. From looking in the chilton book it is a very easy job to do...

Nice how to - thanks for posting it. Any idea on the lifespan of the OEM water pumps? My i4 ('06 model) has 93k on her with no signs of leaking.

great to know! I won't plan on changing until necessary then. Same coolant and heater hoses, too?

I'll put it simply. It can last the life of the car, is relatively easy to change and will give you prior warning before failure. Leave it alone till you need to change it. If you have $$$ burning a hole in your pocket, I have an Paypal account.

Coolant is to water pump what oil is to engine. Change the coolant every few years, your pump lasts longer.

Thanks, Carl. Check on the regular coolant changes. Have you changed any of your coolant or heater core hoses? thanks, man.
