Rear deck -OEM sub grill

Hey folks, just wondering if the grill covering the OEM sub is removeable, like the rear speaker grills are? I don't have the OEM sub, so my deck doesn't have the grill. I'd like to know because I plan to install a sub in the rear deck, but want to keep it looking stock with the OEM grill. Thanks in advance!

No it is not, it is one part with the rear deck cover. it has plastic pins that are melted onto the deck cover from the back side.

You do have to remove the entire rear deck, but check one thread on here. Someone put in the larger Acura sub with some modification.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm planning on having a shop cut a hole in the rear shelf, put an aftermarket grill, then cut a bigger hole in the sheet metal to house an 8" IB sub. I'd mountit with an MDF baffle/ring, then Dynamat the whole deck, maybe put a piece of foam between the plastic shelf and the metal deck.

I can only see from below the deck. There is somewhat of a pre-cut cole in the sheet metal. It looks big enough to house a 6.5" sub. Plus, that same hole has 2 supporting bars that form an "X" across the hole. Looking bottom-up, the plastic shelf has a plastic coupling trim, circle shape, that is about 7-8" wide

so not wanting to do major modification it would be possible to put in a good sub with a small amp to get much better base in the car

Hey Guys,

Tonight on another post (I searched the word "sub") I saw a tech bulletin for Canuk Hondas [08 rear shelf rattle 08-074.pdf] that had a picture of the rear deck panel upside down and I could see that the rear deck does have a "sort of" removable grill but there is sort of a tunnel that is made of the rear deck material that presses down around the edge of the sub (or blocks the sub circumference) so that even if the grill were to be removed the rear deck won't allow the sub to come out like the L & R speakers. There is also the fact that the sub opening of the rear deck is rectangular, not round.
See the attached TSB and you'll see what I mean.
